Riddick is better than Halo, in fact it is the best FPS game since Half Life, it is beyond the levels of normal expectation. I don't really know what more to say, it is a pretty big statement in itself coming from someone who has finished Halo over 25 times now.

Whether Riddick will offer the same replay value I don't know, I am on my second way through on Hard now and I still want to go back and approach sections differently. It reminds me so much of Deus Ex with the RPG and stealth elements; Riddick of course implements far more refined stealth mechanics but that would be expected from a game released 4 years later.

Everything about it smacks of sheer brilliance and unlike some shoddy indoor sections from Halo which a few complained about, I can find little to no reason at all to find a complaint with the level design in Riddick. Top marks to Vin Diesel as well, along with Saving Private Ryan and Pitch Black I have to say, he does a really top job of bringing over his film character Riddick into the game, this is mainly thanks to the writers of course but none the less he does pull it off perfectly.

When people go on about Half Life, Doom 3 and Halo 2 I would have to say from what I have seen from those 3 games (in particular the hours of footage from Half Life 2) Riddick really isn't far off what they are setting out to achieve. The normal mapping is sublime and what you have seen from the Half Life 2 videos of the Havoc Physics interacting with environments, look no further than Riddick for an early glance into what Half Life 2 will look and play like.

A further £1000 will be spent boosting my PC ready for Half Life 2 and Doom 3, with Riddick though I really don't think that I will play a game that betters it this year, this includes all the big hitters.

A magnificent game that really does push the FPS beyond its limits, top stuff!

I have to be honest, I don't know much about this Riddick, but I may look into it.

I really didn't think it would be Riddick though, especially as Vivendi Studios hadn't ever taken on a FPS project on the Xbox or had any experience working with the normal mapping technique.

If Halo 2 is just like a Halo v2, rather than a full on new game, i'll still be mega excited because of it.

But, by the sounds of it, Halo 2 shall be god.

I'm not surprised that something has come along to challenge Halo, it has been a few years now. But will it be as good as Halo 2? that's the question really, all these new FPS's aren't really competing with Halo anymore.

Show me what your working with, brother.

I've completed Halo probably 4 or 5 times.

You have too much time and money, Ali.

Come to think of it, including CO-OP it is probably closer to 35.

I am ashamed, truly ashamed.

It's a case of, finally someone pushes the Xbox further than any other game and due to the fact it is optimised to run on Xbox Hardware aside from the Aliasing early on in the game and the lower resolution I am yet to see a better looking and better running game on any platform, including the PC.

This is testament to what the Xbox can produce providing it is the sole platform for a certain release. The PC suffers from joint development (Thief 3 and Deus Ex: Invisible War being two prime examples) but in a similar way the Xbox also suffers.

ID have passed Doom 3 for the Xbox onto a different development team so that they can take an advantage of both platforms, this is the way forward providing you have the time an funds for two different development teams to be working on more or less the same game.

As I mentioned in my review, the normal mapping technique works superbly as the wire frame models of the characters and environments are kept to a bare minimum which leaves the artists with all the work to do, this is a main contributor to why this game looks so good from all angles.

It's a good job I'm not a fan of single player games then.

Ali, why did you have to post this? WHY? Now I've got another game to add to my list of wanted-ness.

If it beats Halo, I'm in.
