Whether Riddick will offer the same replay value I don't know, I am on my second way through on Hard now and I still want to go back and approach sections differently. It reminds me so much of Deus Ex with the RPG and stealth elements; Riddick of course implements far more refined stealth mechanics but that would be expected from a game released 4 years later.
Everything about it smacks of sheer brilliance and unlike some shoddy indoor sections from Halo which a few complained about, I can find little to no reason at all to find a complaint with the level design in Riddick. Top marks to Vin Diesel as well, along with Saving Private Ryan and Pitch Black I have to say, he does a really top job of bringing over his film character Riddick into the game, this is mainly thanks to the writers of course but none the less he does pull it off perfectly.
When people go on about Half Life, Doom 3 and Halo 2 I would have to say from what I have seen from those 3 games (in particular the hours of footage from Half Life 2) Riddick really isn't far off what they are setting out to achieve. The normal mapping is sublime and what you have seen from the Half Life 2 videos of the Havoc Physics interacting with environments, look no further than Riddick for an early glance into what Half Life 2 will look and play like.
A further £1000 will be spent boosting my PC ready for Half Life 2 and Doom 3, with Riddick though I really don't think that I will play a game that betters it this year, this includes all the big hitters.
A magnificent game that really does push the FPS beyond its limits, top stuff!
Riddick is the best example I can give.
> WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are you mad?
No, I'm perfectly sane thank you.
> do you really think x box can compete with pc on the visual departement.
If properly coded and optimised for the Xbox it can come very very close.

Xbox games sometimes run at that resolution, but many run higher. And they use far more colours than that.
> any pc from the last 4 years would run halo at these settings.
Anything pre GeForce 4 would struggle to make Halo look as good on a PC as on the Xbox. Reason? Xbox version of Halo was optimised for the custom GeForce 3 Ti-500 in the Xbox.

No, the Xbox successor is based on the ATI chip codenamed the R500. That's not the 9800, nor the X800, nor the X800 successor (R480), but the successor to the R480.
i`m so ick of x

Doom 3 on Xbox will not look as good as it will on a high end PC. But for everyone with a current mid-range graphics card and sub 3 GHz processor, it will look equal to, or worse, than the Xbox version. The reason for that again is the optimisations you can put in when you code for specific hard ware.
I'm sick of all people who talk rubbish, especially when they flame me back. And before you argue with me, I do have my Computer Science degree and my area of expertise was hardware. So don't even start saying I don't know what I'm talking about. Perhaps you wouldn't have, but far too many do.
Oh and if you have it spend it. It crops up a lot because I buy a lot.
Got it all on high except for water on ultra-high with zero slowdown.
And from a £160 video card.
Alistair, you constantly talk about how much money you spend. Is this an overcompensation thing?
> i think it is you who is the moron. scroll down the page i wasn`t even

Stop getting a boner over tech specs you moron. Get out, get some friends and get some fresh-air.
Now take that cucumber from your anus. It's obviously causing you discomfort.
