Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift

Its rubbish really. The story is pathetic and the set pieces are unbelievable (the Japanese Yakuza settling a problem with some punk kid by having a car race? I dont think so), but the only reason you would go to see this film is for the cars anyway and the races all look great. It was as fun to watch as the other two, possibly even better than #2 and there is a nice surprise at the end for fans of the series.

If you are wanting some great acting, a heart wrentching story and some brilliantly detailed drama, then this isnt for you. If you want Japanese girls in short skirts driving customised sports cars then I think you'll love it.

I came expecting something similiar to Ong-Bak, I was pleasantly suprised. Deeply psychological and ridiculously clever, I recommend
this to anyone who likes mad mind f**k movies and anyone who generally doesn't like bad films. Don't bother watching if you're just out for a fight-fest.

I thought it was pretty good for the tension and the build up with William's character, who was someone I couldn't help but symapthise with throughout.

Quite tense in places and built up well but the lack of a 'thriller' type ending made me question if it was one.

Overall 8/10 though it lost marks for the Colgate-perfect American family, and their average acting

When Brendan Met Trudy
Nice little independent film, made me chuckle.

Psychomania
Unintentionally hilarious '70s thriller about a motorcycle gang who seek to immortalise themselves by pledging allegiance to some devil frog and committing suicide in bizarre ways.

28 Weeks Later
No real plot or narrative, just one big exposition at the beginning and a long dash across London to get to a rescue helicopter. Solid enough genre stuff.

It is a fantastic film but i marked it down by 1 because of the ending, which was terrible.

Enduring Love

First off then it has to be mentioned that this film, not quite as the films 'tagline' leads the viewer to think, is not a thriller as such. It is however possibly the best psychological study of a character I've seen to date in a film.

Craig and Ifans should have at least been nominated for Oscars for their performances in my view as they were convincing and easily portrayed a haunted mind.

The premise of the film is more about in-depth character study, following the two characters the film chooses to study after a tragic ballooning accident (in my mind though this accident is pretty ridiculous but you'll have to see it for yourself) and the strange emotional attachment one has for the other. The way the camera works and the dialogue scenes are totally convincing, if a little prolonged.

There is a bit of a climax too in dramatic tension but the film is pretty stagnant on what actually happens, instead choosing to follow the characters and their relationships on a day-to-day basis and use cliffhangers that don't really lead anywhere.

I'd give it 7/10 overall, escaping over the 6 mark for its originality and scenes of tension. Worth a watch, probably

Even though Pirates 3 confused me im going to see it again Thursday, hopefully ill notice stuff i missed before!

The Hustler

Newman at his best, won a couple of oscars i believe for his performance. Really good film about a guy with a talent for taking peoples money on a pool table. Bits where it does drag on and yes it is in black and white but its still a classic. Drags on in areas but still on a diffrent class.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3

The film explodes with some decent action after the first few minutes, and starts with a reasonably decent scene. After this though.. the film seems to go dead for a reasonably long time, until the journey into Davey Jones' locker. The end of the film perks up with perhaps the best battle scene there's been in a 'Pirates' film so far.

The main trouble with the film is the slightly confusing storyline, with a lot of bargaining making it almost impossible to tell who's on which side. Disney have tried to make the film a little deeper too, adding a sort of 'haunted by their actions' to the characters, yet, this doesn't really add much to the film.

Other than the bargaining as long as you've seen the last couple of films you should be alright with the story line, if you haven't... I'd suggest you do before you see this. My only other problems with it are the lack of exotic locations featured lots in its predecessors and the annoying and confusing representation of the first ten minutes of Davey Jones' locker.

The story was better than the last two overall, as was the fights on board the ships. Riskily the comedy level was upped further, but it payed off as there were genuinely funny moments, rather than the 'Disney-humour' shown in the last films.

7/10 I'd say; it's watchable, worth watching, and has good SFX. There's also some good performances from the recognisable cast and less little niggles with the reality of the story I felt in watching 2.

Training Day

Saw it again for a second time last night, and was reminded why I liked it in the first place. For starters, Denzel Washington is in perhaps his best role to date - in my mind at least - and this Oscar winning performance helps make the film.

The hard-hitting way life of 'NARC's and street gangs was put across impressed me. Unlike Miami Vice where the film seemed like a lot of sequences filmed then stapled together, TD flows quite easily from one scene to another without ever really getting boring. At the same time the story is a little better than most films of this type.

The twists and changes in the story are good in the way they're almost unique, especially to a fast-paced action film like this. Now, when I say they're unique what I mean is that you can't see them coming yet they build on what you're just about expecting, yet at the same time changing significantly the perspective with which you see the film. Washington's role as an 'anti-hero' is one for debate after the first half of the film, as he follows an anti-heroic path while the director has chosen to stop us empathising with him so much.

But yeah, I've tried not to give away any of the plot as the enjoyment of the film comes from seeing it without knowing what'll happen..

I'd say 8/10 overall
