Post any films you have seen recently (cinema, DVD or TV) along with a short review.

Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift

7/10

Its rubbish really. The story is pathetic and the set pieces are unbelievable (the Japanese Yakuza settling a problem with some punk kid by having a car race? I dont think so), but the only reason you would go to see this film is for the cars anyway and the races all look great. It was as fun to watch as the other two, possibly even better than #2 and there is a nice surprise at the end for fans of the series.

If you are wanting some great acting, a heart wrentching story and some brilliantly detailed drama, then this isnt for you. If you want Japanese girls in short skirts driving customised sports cars then I think you'll love it.

See, I disagree about 2001. It was carefully put together between Kubrick and Clarke, getting some of the ideas from the book on to screen was always going to be difficult and I think the way Kubrick approached it was to use his imagination. It was never art for arts sake.

I found it overly abstract and sparse. There are certainly good ideas behind it but I didn't feel they were explored fully, it's probably the most ambiguous "work it out yourself" film I've ever seen & I draw the line at listening to classical music for 40 minutes while nothing else happens. I'm not dumb but after it ended I had to do further reading because I had no idea what happened after the 3rd(?) obelisk was found.

The sequel is arguably better than the first film.

I also saw 2001 A Space Odyssey for the first time. Loved it, still have lots of questions though, but I guess I should watch it a few more times or watch the sequel?

I didn't like it. I'm all for arty, high concept films but 2001 just takes it too far and stretches a good idea out for too long and too vaguely.

I agree with you about Brave Nin. Really felt like something more was missing. Would rather watch Spirited Away.

It's on the bluray extras and called The Legend of Mor'du. Unfortunately because of the botched way the story was written, there was no way to work it until the film without ruining the reveal at the ruins.

By the way, Sunset Boulevard on film4 at 2:40pm. Been meaning to watch it and cross it off my list

Frankenweenie 6/10

The first hour is really good, then it gets ridiculous & the ending completely bottle the entire message of the film by adding an uneccessary happy ending.

After watching these movies I finally understand all the references in The Simpsons. :-)

My mum told me all my relatives have been to see Skyfall so I picked it up on iTunes. Great film, great Bond movie. Nice to see people excited about the franchise again.

Wreck It Ralph: Expected to like it far more than I actually did.

The Campaign: Enjoyed it far more than I expected to.

Probably give both 7/10.

Visually beautiful but the story feels sparse & disappointing.

I watched Skyfall last night and even though I'm not a big James Bond fan I really enjoyed it.

A former secret agent wanting revenge for M abandoning him during a mission comes back to haunt MI5 by getting details of secret agents who have infiltrated foreign organisations and posting them online at intervals, so Bond has to track them down and eliminate them.

Bit of a sad ending (I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it) and nicely left open at the end for the next film in the series.
