Surely the chicken must have come first. I feel that a creature before the chicken must have evolved slightly, creating a egg laying animal. This is because when I turn the question around I see that the egg must have come from somewhere - right?!

I'm perfectly aware why people want it taught; they shouldn't be allowed to make it so. Evolotion is science's best theory so far, as such it should be taught as science.

Edit; 'if it is true then it's scientifically accurate'? What? If this vastly complex being created the universe, it is accurate? A) that makes no sense, B) it's useless to use that as an argument - we study it to pre-empt the proof. No.

Alfonse, why should neither be taught? Evolution in sicence and Creationism in RS is fine with me.

I don't think either should be taught, especially not creationism.

I somehow get the impression that you think science and evolution is about disproving creationism. Frankly science couldnt care one way or another. Science is about learning and understanding. Whats wrong with wanting to know how the grand canyon was formed?

Its based on faith of course. The belief in God. I'm sure nobody would object to it being taught in a Religious studys class. People want it taught in a science class though because if it is true then that means it is scientifically accurate, but how you would ever prove that scientifically is beyond me hence the argument against it. Its a perpetual debate really.

Yeah of course there is, although if it is true I dread to think of the science involved. But it has no scientific basis ergo shouldn't be taught as science.

Well there must be some kind of science behind creation (assuming its is true). The methods and mechanisms of how it would work for example, so teaching that in a science lesson is fine by me. Thats not what these people want though, they dont have any scientific reasoning behind their demands.

I've been saying that evolution contains alot of speculation but some of the stuff these poople say is just mind-bogglingly obscure. Its trivial stuff too that in no way has any impact on the Christian (or Jewish and Muslim I guess) faith, such as how the Grand Canyon was formed. What difference does that make?

Of course there shouldn't be outright dismissal; there should be conflict when Creationism is backed so heavily it's taught as science in some US states.
