As the adjudicating officer for the retail store extra Gameaday prize(s) I, The Only Tony, hereby declare the official results of this competition.

While the quantity of entries was high the quality was "none too hot" with many "fantasy schemes" often involving females.

I must disallow any general suggestions of games championships as we did these last year and we are running them this year. I would have taken a different view if the ideas for these had been worked up into fully suggestions (with details).

As I am judging this I can hardly award my own "Two Can Play at This" idea the prize - though undoubtedly we will use something similar for an "introduce a friend" incentive.

YH had a good notion about working with schools and Meka came up with "People are Stupid" idea to give safety advice with every game!

Rakuga deserves a mention for persistence and I particularly liked his suggestion of a One Day Sale. IF we decide to do that then he will get a prize. The problem with one day sales is that once people get used to (even) lower prices they are resistant to buying at the normal prices.

Rakuga also suggested giving better directions to the shops.

I liked Namostar's idea of placing addresses of the shops on internet banners. We'll use this so Namostar - you are A WINNER.

The second winner is Fantasy Meister. He made a couple of reasonable suggestions including better promotion of Reddies. But his idea which caught my imagination was to print an 8 digit number on the receipts for people to match with a number on the internet. This gives us the possibility of running Gameaday in the shops. I'm not sure if we will actually use it but it is the best idea (in my view).

A difficult competition which has clearly stretched imaginations to the limit. Thank you for entering.

Congratulations to NAMOSTAR and FANTASY MEISTER and I won't forget Rakuga IF we use the one day sale idea.

***********

These are the original rules.

The next amazing Special Reserve competition (another one!) is to suggest ideas for attracting people into our Big Club Shops.

The main objective here is to think about the cost effectiveness of your ideas. In order for them to work they need to be, yes you guessed it, low on cost and high on impact.

If you haven't visited all or any of our shops then get yourself down to your local shop and check them out! Visit our Big Club Shops page for further details: http://special.reserve.co.uk/common/shops/shopsindex.php

This competition is open for 1 month and the best ideas that we USE will win a game as part of GAMEADAY. If no ideas are used then I will pick 1 winner that I deem the best.

CLOSING DATE: 27th July 2001 *********MIDNIGHT*********

The challenge has been set. Good luck!

Or with my last one (4.) if you want you can have the big board stating the local address of the shop. i.e if you are in Bristol City have it refer to the club shop in Bristol

'Cheap games, Great quality, Excellent service...Special Reserve - 351 Glocester road (A38)'

Obviously people in Bristol are going to know where this is,and will visit it now they know whats there. You can also have this guy handing out pamflets as well with more information.

How about 6-way GT3 tourneys and dancing girls.

4. Have a bloke/blokess stand in the middle of a busy town(s)/city(ies) on a Saturday holding up a placard with some laser printouts reading something like 'Cheap games, great quality, excellent service...SRDN.com'.

The hard board and printouts will cost you a mere fiver or less, and the amount of coverage and interest you will generate will surely give you your extra customers that you want.

3.Do what people advertising our local nightclub do - take a big handful of flyers, go into a windy populated area, and toss them into the air. The wind will carry them about, and everyone will see. If this is not availiable because it might be littering, then do the same with balloons with the website or address/phone no on, or a map of the nearest store etc. Fill them with helium gas, and watch them fly - it will cover a huge amount of area, and when they come down, people will see them and will be intrigued to find out where they came from.

2.Make the shops easier to find. I dont mean relocate the shops, but to signpost it or list it in a bit more detail. Sure you have done now, but the first time I went we had to ask a guy where it was, he didnt know, so then we had to ask him where the location was, and from then in we searched like hell for it. We found it, though!

1.Make the shop(s) attractive. I went to a shop in Sawbridgeworth to see what the club shops were like and being honest - would not have gone in the shop unless I knew what was inside. Show people that you like to keep things in a good state - it will persuade them to take a further look.

"Insane in September!"
Half price SR membership for all those entering the shops who wish to join SR during September.
(Every 100th signup gets a free game of their choice excluding multi-media titles. Multiple applications from the same person are deemed void).

Inserts in the local free paper. These actually worked on me ages ago when EB put a flyer in the local Bristol Observer with just a few special offers on it, I popped in the next Saturday and took them up on it. (Important, include a map to your shop on the flyer).

"Crazy Week!"
Run a week long promotion throughout October whereby you knock 20% off that console and its games.

At the top of each webpage, space permitting, add a "Find our Shops - HERE!" link, taking you to a page displaying each shop's contact details (address/telephone number/fax/email) and a small map.

Make GAD and FAD winners COLLECT their prizes from their local SR Shop. That guarantees at least one extra visitor per day. (heh).

Employ someone to dress up as Sonic the Hedgehog or Super Mario with a sandwich board for a few weeks and run around your town. (With flyers). In this weather, make sure the costume is fully air-conditioned.

Give away a skateboard with every Tony Hawks related game sale. (Shop visitors only).

Write to MacDonalds and get them to open a store next to you in every location.

Start a firebombing campaign concentrating on Pink Planet, EB, Virgin, Toys R Us, Game, Currys, Dixons etc. (The Notables can do this for you, but at a price.)

More suggestions, as they happen, from FM.

You want console pods, a double sided centrered widescreen TV showing in game footage of the latest game - that'd wow passers by.
They'd come in, and watch, play and buy.

Yes, window displays promoting instore events and specials could help, or a computer terminal someone could attract passers by/visitors to the area who wanted to come in and check their e-mails or browse for a bit. You could expand this a bit to allow for multiplayer games (for a charge), one pc on the web, or a few connected on a LAN.
