The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
While the quantity of entries was high the quality was "none too hot" with many "fantasy schemes" often involving females.
I must disallow any general suggestions of games championships as we did these last year and we are running them this year. I would have taken a different view if the ideas for these had been worked up into fully suggestions (with details).
As I am judging this I can hardly award my own "Two Can Play at This" idea the prize - though undoubtedly we will use something similar for an "introduce a friend" incentive.
YH had a good notion about working with schools and Meka came up with "People are Stupid" idea to give safety advice with every game!
Rakuga deserves a mention for persistence and I particularly liked his suggestion of a One Day Sale. IF we decide to do that then he will get a prize. The problem with one day sales is that once people get used to (even) lower prices they are resistant to buying at the normal prices.
Rakuga also suggested giving better directions to the shops.
I liked Namostar's idea of placing addresses of the shops on internet banners. We'll use this so Namostar - you are A WINNER.
The second winner is Fantasy Meister. He made a couple of reasonable suggestions including better promotion of Reddies. But his idea which caught my imagination was to print an 8 digit number on the receipts for people to match with a number on the internet. This gives us the possibility of running Gameaday in the shops. I'm not sure if we will actually use it but it is the best idea (in my view).
A difficult competition which has clearly stretched imaginations to the limit. Thank you for entering.
Congratulations to NAMOSTAR and FANTASY MEISTER and I won't forget Rakuga IF we use the one day sale idea.

These are the original rules.
The next amazing Special Reserve competition (another one!) is to suggest ideas for attracting people into our Big Club Shops.
The main objective here is to think about the cost effectiveness of your ideas. In order for them to work they need to be, yes you guessed it, low on cost and high on impact.
If you haven't visited all or any of our shops then get yourself down to your local shop and check them out! Visit our Big Club Shops page for further details: http://special.reserve.co.uk/common/shops/shopsindex.php
This competition is open for 1 month and the best ideas that we USE will win a game as part of GAMEADAY. If no ideas are used then I will pick 1 winner that I deem the best.
CLOSING DATE: 27th July 2001 *********MIDNIGHT*********
The challenge has been set. Good luck!
> Idea 12:
Persuasive talk - Get persuasive people to stand outside
> EB and tell the people how much cheaper the games are in the local
> SR store. If they don't listen they will be threatened with their
> newly bought eb game being sabbotaged before their own eyes.

This is surprisingly annoying. If anybody has been to a place like Tenerife they will see what I mean. You sit down to a nice eveing meal, when suddenly black street merchants offering you 'cheaper price' bounce onto your table and they wont go away, and try to persuade you to buy their cheap fake rubbishy silver and gold jewellery that turns green when it get wet.
Otherwise its a good idea!
:-D
Standees are great, but the main overall image of the window display of the shop is very important, I believe that to attract more people simply put great posters/offers/bargains and standees in the window!
:)
Stand outside E*****nics B****ique (stars for protection in case they read this ;-))and other leading opposition and claim they use slave labour. Say Special Reserves slave labour free and should therefore be visited.
Advertise in local nearby papers
Idea 11:
Beat up Cheatguru - not many people seem to like him. SO CAPITALISE!
Allow the public access to your club magazines. Hand them out in streets. Leave them outside your shops in little point of sale boxes. Passers by pick them up - hear about your great site and great prices and come back.
Idea 7:
Spray paint walls saying SPECIAL RESERVE RULES!! ok.. maybe not.
Idea 8:
Bring Danni Wheeler in to sign autographed photos for those people out there who luv her!
Idea 9:
Send someone driving around the towns in a van with Special Reserve on it and the address! Like the Essex FM thingy. You could always do the Labour approach, get a loudspeaker ready and then played "LIFTED"!
> After reading FMs idea of getting people to dress up as Mario or
> Sonic, perhaps you could do both at once and create a 'fight'
> between the two to be staged in a mock up boxing ring during the
> day. This could be advertised in local papers and will hopefully
> generate media interest for it's strangeness, thereby genrating more
> public interest in the shop.

*cough cough Trigger Happy Tv cough*
:D
Idea 2: In places like the Chelmsford shops the games aren't always playable - you have to ask. Make them all (if not already) available for people to use. Then stick a "TEST THE NEW PLAYSTATION 2 GAME HERE FOR FREE" banner outside to attract people's attention.
Idea 3:
Run more regular competitions in your stores. A big banner outside "Think you are good at
Idea 4:
Arcade machines in the Special Reserve club shops. Just like the Arcades (Time Crisis 2 for example). People pay a quid to play.
Idea 5:
It's leaflet delivery time! Get some 13 year olds stick them on a bicycle and send them around the area (Southend would be a good place for them to go as I know many people hear and hardly any of them have heard of Special Reserve). This would also be a good technique for getting people into the big stores.
And Remember once you get people in winning prizes/playing for prizes they will be stuck and be coming in very quickly! :D Also if you get people in for competitions make sure you get them stuck even more with banners around the shops showing your bestest offer.
More to come.. sorry if some have been said.
