You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got.
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone.
Back at base, bugs in the software
Flash the message, Something's out there.
Floating in the summer sky.
99 red balloons go by.
Donkey Konga is set to hit European shores this Christmas, along with Pikmin 2, Paper Mario 2 and Metroid Prime 2. UK gamers are also treated to the long over due release of Animal Crossing and the GBA titles Leaf Green and Fire Red.
Nintendo's childish image may save a potentially bad Christmas. Sony's flagship release is GTA:SA and Microsoft's is of course Halo 2. These are the sequels to the games that single handidly sold the respective consoles. Nintendo are relying on a unique Mario outing and the more hardcore favourite Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. A multiplayer may increase popularity but nit enough to triumph over the 2 AAA titles for the X-box and PS2.
Lucky for Nintendo both the games with Halo 2's online capabilities and GTA 5's horrific content the games are soley aimed at 15 plus (even if it is illegal). The children and parent buying population will turn to Nintendo with Pikmin 2, Donkey Konga, Zelda: Four Swords and Paper Mario 2... games with a very childish appeal.
So Christmas may not be a disaster but who cares? I am not bothered that Mario's paper outing may not impact on the charts. As a Nintendo fan this Christmas is looking like a lot of fun. No real arty games or over the top movie style software... just pure fun. Come Christmas day I'll be beating off to 99 red balloons, turning into paper aeroplanes and controlling 4 little green elves across the screen.
This is why I'm a Nintendo fan

> games came off badly?
DS - nice idea but worrying that no one can actually demonstrate any real use for the alternate touch screen other than things which could be done without the second screen. Games are largely spin offs or ports.
PSP - again, nice, but it's going to be too expensive, screen will get scratched to blazes, and the games are all spinoffs or ports. Sony wasted a good portion of their press conference babbling on about next gen stuff etc.
MS - Conker was okay, HALO 2 was bl**dy awesome as were a few other sequels. It's not like Rare was the centrepiece of MS's showings.
Really, with a few exceptions, it was the third party's that helped all 3 have something remotely interesting.

San Andreas won't have any garage music, what on earth possessed you to think that? Garage is purely a European, mainly English thing unfortuantly. Oh and it was certainly not around in the early 90's thank god.
Expect a lot of East Coast rap, hip Hop and most likely the usual rock radio stations and disco type stuff.
San Andreas has yet to impress me really, all looks very Vice City to me. The screenshots released so far look graphically awful, other than the main ones released by Rockstar that have obviously been tarted up to look a hell of a lot better than the actual game play. Won't stop the drooling masses from pre-ordering it though.
> I'm still unconvinced. ;-)
Ah come on Rik, you said yourself you never played much of DE2.
Once you get past the first city it opens up to a hugely enjoyable game. Not as great as the first, but still very good.

I'd argue the GC, and especially the GBA, has an awful lot of third party tat.
GTA San Andrea is Oct 22nd, Halo 2 is Nov 11th, so it's well clear. As a PS2 and Xbox owner, GTA San Andreas doesn't really excite me a great deal, especially if it's going to be full of garage and rap music. As it is Halo 2 Limited Edition is only one place below San Andreas on Amazon.co.uk's preorder sales BUT those sales are split between the 2 versions, the regular edition is at position 9.
Interestingly Donkey Konga isn't even on Amazon's system, and Pikmin is right down at position #243 despite being out October 8th.
On the other hand I don't think I'm alone in saying that all three companies came out of E3 with very little to impress bar a pile of sequels and the odd new title.

Exactly the same as Deus Ex then.
I was actually going to get Gladius a while back, but I decided not to. I think I'll get my tactical fix with Advance wars 2 soon though, as I'm finally starting to get some money.
Oh, and Prime is amazing, but not to everyone's taste.
Sure, it was well planned out and everything...but it still seemed rather dull to me.
And Dringo's right about Halo. Especially seeing as the PC version flopped.
