Let us take a quick look at those in with a chance:
Nintendo: Their Gamecube, previously known as the Dolphin. Due to be released early next year here with a crop of familiar names in new games.
Microsoft: The Xbox has a lot of money behind it, and will be promoted well for it's launch here early next year.
Sony: The Playstation 2 is already out there and making an impression, but is it good enough to hold off the competition?
Now here are a few of my views on the subject.
Gamecube: Games are mostly orientated around what kids want, with more Mario, more Donkey Kong, and much, much more of the same. Gamecube samecube I say!
Xbox: Games look impressive, and if there are enough games it should blow the competition away.
Playstation 2: When the Xbox arrives this will be old hat. So far it has had some decent games, but lacked real innovation.
So personally, I think that Microsoft are onto a winner with the Xbox!

Mmmm... PS2 and enjoyment... not often used in the same sentece... :)
Its usually... PS2 and 'wait until the games get going'
:P
I take it you haven't really looked at things the way they are.
Playstation 2 is well ahead at the moment. Its in God knows how many homes already and most people that have one are enjoying it. There are some great games available, and plenty more to come. It's also pretty future proof for at least a few years as the introduction of a Hard Disk and internet access will give it something of a rebirth, and it's a good selling point.
Microsoft seem to be at something of a disadvantage, as everything that they are hoping to sell on, the PS2 will have. Microsoft just haven't impressed me at all. There don't seem to be any killer titles amonst what I've seen so far.
Nintendo look strong, and I don't think that many people were expecting this. I've only just been able to look at some of the E3 stuff, and it really does look quite brilliant. The games seem to be innovative and new whilst maintaining a sense of tradition.
To say all of Nintendo's games are aimed at kids is just stupid. Nintendo have always been a family company and as a result they want to make titles that appeal to as wider audience as possible, and characters like Mario and Zelda do just that. They are not ignoring the needs of the apparently more mature gamer this time around though, with Silicon Knights working on some titles for bigger kids, or adults, as they sometimes claim to be!
Personally, I've always been fond of Sega's games, and I'm watching closely to see what is released on each machine. So far each console has been given some decent titles, but it looks like Sega prefer Nintendo.
Like Robot Wars but without the bearded science teacher that wont let the kids drive the robot.
