HERE ARE THE RESULTS OF THIS COMPETITION. I have read ALL the entries!

A lot of entries mentioned things which have generally been discussed before or are in the pipeline. They include:
User Profiles
Polls
Walkthroughs and Game Guides
Highest Scores
Who is currently posting
Splash Plastic (which is too expensive for us to do)
Online Reddies
Logos and Ringtones (see UKphonetones.com)
Genre search for games
Tell a Friend.

It just goes to show how busy we are that we are unable to get many of the above into place. But hey, expenditure is controlled by income (hint).

I liked Darkness' idea about tutorials, and Mantis made the suggestion to have a "Gamesmaster" of the forums based on competitions for high scores.

Cookie Monster wants people to be able to promote their website (we already offer this for Freeola customers) and he also suggests that we have an office pet which is monitored with a web cam (brilliant).

Monkey_with_Attitude suggests a "most played games of the week" counter on UKgames.com.

Freak of the Dark says our logo should "move or something".

Turbonutter reckons we should run Flash games and this is supported by Shaneo who says we should run SR Arena and give prizes to the best players. Turbonutter also tells us that we are lacking on PC game specification of the type you find on the back of the box and Swish extends this to a link under each title.

CDouch is a "man of a thousand ideas", mostly on the button too. He lists: Information on gaming from around the world, more mini sites like UKgt3, kids corner, celebrity visits and better organised release info including more information on unreleased games (to name but a few of his suggestions).

The rules (written by Kendozod) state "exciting and would attract a lot of visitors".

THE WINNERS ARE:
CDouch for MORE INFORMATION ON UNRELEASED GAMES.
Turbonutter for FLASH GAMES.

Many thanks for all of your participation and, for the time being, I promise not to confuse the issue by holding any other similar competition.

Below are the original rules written by Kendozod

New Site Features.

Tony has let me loose to post a new and exciting competition!
So here goes:

This competition is for all of you to think up new features for our websites. We already have cheats, clips, demos, discussions etc but are there other features you would like us to add?

The aim here is for the feature to be low admin maintenance and low in cost (obviously!) but be exciting and would attract lots of visitors.

They can be fun, educational, business, reference, silly, cool - anything as long as they NOT sexual or violent in nature.

This competition is open for 1 month and the best ideas that we USE will win a game as part of GAMEADAY. If no ideas are used then I will pick 1 winner that I deem the best.

CLOSING DATE: 8th July 2001

So get thinking and posting. Remember, your suggestions could make a difference!

don't know if this has been meantioned before but why not let users rate the topics that the read out of 10? The on the forum page a icon could show if the topic was hot or not!

It would attract me and many others to look at that topic more and these will be the topics that make FOG and the discussions what it is!

So people can skip out some of the rubbish posted and skip to the parts where the disscusions are at their best.

How about giving the user in the forums that option of being able to use html, I suppose you would have to reinforce the rule that no self promoting etc... is allowed but say they want to use show others a news report from upwire or a review from ukgames then why not allow this ability to the user....

I can see many problems occuring with the misuse of this function and if people abuse it then the ability to be able to use links in there posts is simply taken away...

How about giving the user the options of different skins for the forum pages... I wouldn't mind having white text on a black background now and again..

You could give the options of only a few skins to begin with and that could be for

1) Text.
2) Title.
3) Link.

Basically you can't have two colours in the same category, it would make the foums more interactive and hence a lot more fun!

Hold a setup competition every month....

...'setup compeition', what is that.

Well every person who want to enter sends in a few pictures of their computer console and TV setup, they can include pictures of how and where they keep there games, what they sit on to play their games and just the overall look of the setup.

The winner wins something a bit better than a game? I dunno maybe a couple of games and a controller or something else....

It would be great to look into the habitats of others like SHEEPY and Ant...

To incourage people to buy from SR online.. if someone wins a gameday prize.. give them the option of using that prize to gain them 30 pounds off an online purchase of 100 pounds or more. This would be great for SR as it would gain extra purchases and it would be great for users, to gain discount. Include the same limit of 90 days as a purchase deadline, as is given as a claim deadline. Eh Tony, whaddya think?? This makea de fun, yeah? Wooh, sorry went all Noo Yoirk, there for a minute. I'll be off now. Gatta go feed da dawg.

How about a 'heated debates' section where raging debates are highlighted? Obviously it would need to be updated regularly... i think people are more likely to click on links to forums if they think something 'juicy' is waiting for them... you could put a small one sentence hypertext on the main page that says something like: 'See who's getting steamed up in our online forums' - and when clicked on, the surfer would see a short list of the most recent heated topics. A pop up window similar to the stats windows would be good for this. As i said, i think this might attract more people to the forums... maybe invite surfers, by saying 'have your say in this week's most raging topic! can you take the pressure??'

To give the buyer a better decsion on the item he/she is buying you could add a system where people can submit a short sentance about the product at hand. This sentance could be limited to a small number of characters as the point is for the users to write a few words that really 'sum up' the item.

These can then be viewed by all people who look at the product online. Really it is like the reviews, but not such a descriptive piece. Though by seeing what other people think overal by these 'short sentances' it sums up the product quickly.
