HERE ARE THE RESULTS OF THIS COMPETITION. I have read ALL the entries!

A lot of entries mentioned things which have generally been discussed before or are in the pipeline. They include:
User Profiles
Polls
Walkthroughs and Game Guides
Highest Scores
Who is currently posting
Splash Plastic (which is too expensive for us to do)
Online Reddies
Logos and Ringtones (see UKphonetones.com)
Genre search for games
Tell a Friend.

It just goes to show how busy we are that we are unable to get many of the above into place. But hey, expenditure is controlled by income (hint).

I liked Darkness' idea about tutorials, and Mantis made the suggestion to have a "Gamesmaster" of the forums based on competitions for high scores.

Cookie Monster wants people to be able to promote their website (we already offer this for Freeola customers) and he also suggests that we have an office pet which is monitored with a web cam (brilliant).

Monkey_with_Attitude suggests a "most played games of the week" counter on UKgames.com.

Freak of the Dark says our logo should "move or something".

Turbonutter reckons we should run Flash games and this is supported by Shaneo who says we should run SR Arena and give prizes to the best players. Turbonutter also tells us that we are lacking on PC game specification of the type you find on the back of the box and Swish extends this to a link under each title.

CDouch is a "man of a thousand ideas", mostly on the button too. He lists: Information on gaming from around the world, more mini sites like UKgt3, kids corner, celebrity visits and better organised release info including more information on unreleased games (to name but a few of his suggestions).

The rules (written by Kendozod) state "exciting and would attract a lot of visitors".

THE WINNERS ARE:
CDouch for MORE INFORMATION ON UNRELEASED GAMES.
Turbonutter for FLASH GAMES.

Many thanks for all of your participation and, for the time being, I promise not to confuse the issue by holding any other similar competition.

All the obove written by Tony (The Judge)

************

Below are the original rules written by Kendozod

New Site Features.

Tony has let me loose to post a new and exciting competition!
So here goes:

This competition is for all of you to think up new features for our websites. We already have cheats, clips, demos, discussions etc but are there other features you would like us to add?

The aim here is for the feature to be low admin maintenance and low in cost (obviously!) but be exciting and would attract lots of visitors.

They can be fun, educational, business, reference, silly, cool - anything as long as they NOT sexual or violent in nature.

This competition is open for 1 month and the best ideas that we USE will win a game as part of GAMEADAY. If no ideas are used then I will pick 1 winner that I deem the best.

CLOSING DATE: 8th July 2001

So get thinking and posting. Remember, your suggestions could make a difference!

here are my ideas:

1.trip down memory lane:
basiacly info, cheats and reviews for those retro machines like the nes, as some pleople are not fortunate enough to own a modern day console.
you could have lists of games and how much they are worth.

2.DVD trailers:
i dont think you have this at the moment but if you do, just ignor it.
a lot of sites have sections where you can view trailers for new films at the cinema and on video and dvd.
this has been a quite popular feature.

3.get in touch:
basiacly you have a list of contacts including phone , fax , address , email address , web site for each and every games company like namco etc.
so if people have a message or a question for a company they can get the details through you.
this would bring in a lot of people as a few weeks ago i needed to contact loads of companies but coulnt find their details.

4.press packs:
if visitors are doing some school project on you or the games industry they would want information.
you could make a pack either an online/downloadable pack or a pack you send in the post.

5.Magazine rack:
almost every gamer buys atleast 1 games, dvd,pc magazine a month but sometimes these are hard to find especialy the ones with demos that sell of fast.so you could open a section selling these magazines.

6.around the world:
a section where you select a country say japan or usa and read news, charts and new releases lists from that country.
so you get a taste of whats to come when the games reach us.

7.play games:
you could make your wn online games use java script or flash where you have to splat things with red splats or something.

8.kids corner:
a section devoted to younger children with colouring competitions and reviews of games that they like.
as i have always thought that younger children dont have a very good chance of winning gad or fad as oviously there entry wont be as good as a 16 year old, will it?
so there could be a gad and fad juniour for under 10s or something so they have a better chance of winning.
there could also be a child friendly chat forum as even though its in the rules not to swear sometimes it slips out onto the cyber page right in front of kids eyes.

9.Game of the....:
you could have a little box in one of the corners of every page with the game of the day, week or month or even special reserve recomends with a picture of the game, its price and a link to its reviews.

10.the platinum range:
basiacly just a page with every platinum game listed for quick refference.

well thats all i can think of at the moment but there may be more to come.
i hope you like them and they are usful to the site.
im sorry if any of these ideas have been used already by other people,i havent read through them all yet.

It might be an idea to pull newbies into SR using this method. Once having placed their first order, they come to a page saying "Join SR and get £*.** off your first order," and there's a chance to join. It also explains about the chat forums and prompts them to join up for that.

Or, you could offer their first product free (up to a certain value) if they join SR.

I know this would be a hassle, but you could offer people the chance to download demos of games like on gamesdomain and at the end of each demo game, it asks them if they want to but the game. You could explain all of the features of the full game.

What about a "refer a friend" setup, where members refer friends (duh!). If their friend joins, they get a reddy. This would mean that if someone at SR referred 5 friends and they all joined, they would get a free gift with their reddies from the free gift selection.
Just think how much everyone would want to get reddies just by typing in someone's email address! If everyone got one friend to join, you would have doubled your users. Nice thought, eh?

What about a links page/Portal? you could include links page/portal to places like Nintendo and Sony etc, There could be links to Users WebPages on Freeola and even a monthly prize for the best freeola hosted site. You could even link with complementary sites I.e. none competitor sites such which sell only music CD's, clothing or Electricals. Sites could be rated by SR for content, products and services. Linking to commercial sites could lead to further revenue for SR through click through and percentage sales.
Just imagine a user comes to your site looking for a Music CD or even TV, oh you don't sell them oh but Only Music LTD does. Then in the future they want a Computer Game or DVD they remember your store as selling what they WANT now, not just what they DIDN'T want the previous occasion
Other useful links (I don't know if you have all of these) would be links to Manufactures sites i.e. Intel or Asus to get extra information on products or to download drivers.
None commercial or non competitive gaming news sites, Multiplayer sites and Game fans home/web rings.
What about a Price comparison page for currant best sellers/new games etc Ok you might not be cheapest on everything all of the time but your prices could be shown to beat the high street/other websites prices e.g. (Thinking Ahead)
Tomb Raider DVD SR Members Price inc Postage £18.99
" " DVD other Shop Price + Postage £19.97
Members Save £1 and Free delivery with SR - None members save £1
The Links/Portal Page I'm sure would not cost a lot to run once set-up and would be easy to maintain plus could raise revenue, increase customer loyalty and encourage new customers.

Since the demise of Daily Radar UK there has been an opening for a daily games news site. What i'm talking about is the re-organisation of your front page and the games sections.

You would split the gaming section of the web site into different domains consisting of, the consoles of today (PSX, Dreamcast and N64), the next generation of consoles (Gamecube, X-box and PS2)and a domain for handhelds and retro games. Each domain would be split up into its sections and from there the latest news being front page with the games for sale further down the page (of course not in a place where it takes less priority). The buyers can to be attracted to the site from a different angle. You would have previews, reviews, interviews and news all reorganised so that they are under one 'roof' and not just scrambled across the site.

You would not only be the number one site for selling games but the number one UK newsgroup.

Another thing would be to let people from the outside like the notables or the people you can trust to update the site on latest news, rumours, events and special offers.

As well as highlighting the message... Why not highlight the username of the GADFAD winner for that day?

You could have a wish list...

Where people can make a list of the stuff on the site that they would like to buy...

So they can come back later on and stick it stright into the shopping basket instead of having to search for it all over again... it alsol allows people to grab a list of all the stuff they want, so they can choose want they want from te bigger list?

On request, you could automatgically E-Mail people info about games/hardware/etc... when they are in stock/released... so people will know that their order is on the way...

Also... send a dispatch e-mail to customers when their order has been dispatched from the brantch... I've had these a couple of times from various places, and its kinda nice to know that my order is winging its way to me, and not still awaiting stock?

I think you should have a section detailing any up and coming consoloe competitions and tournaments.

How about a 'Gotta Have it' section where you list, for the benefit of non-gamers or new gamers, some of the 'classics' on each platform.

It could be done by votes, general sales or common sense, really. It really would be rather good.
