I often think about the history of these forums, and how things used to be. That's not to say they've declined in quality over the years, but as with most things, you keep them going long enough and you'll find people complaining that things ain't what they used to be.

Anyway, I got to remembering some of the good times while bored at work today (a regular occurence) and yeah, it might be a bit sad, but some of the memories really did make me smile. UKchatforums.com must be my most visited website ever (still my homepage) and despite it just being a collection of poorly-designed .gif images and text-speak, sometimes it genuinely manages to make me laugh out loud (LOL).

So... in the spirit of one of my Shiznit lists, I want your top UKchatforums.com moments of all time, from throughout history - it can be favourite users, brilliant moments of realisation or just your favourite threads. I'll get us kicked off with a few memories that brightened up my day.

THE BELLDANDY SAGA - I've never had so much fun berating someone over the internet as I did with Belldandy. Probably still floating around somewhere under a newly mysterious (very probably Manga-related) username, Belldandy was NEVER WRONG. Even if he was, he wasn't. And if he really was, then he'd run away and not come out to play, until the next time he was wrong. It came close to bullying at a few points (I used to get his emails) but it was coming from both sides: Goaty, Light, Pandy, myself and others (all anti-war and common sense) versus the one man righteous army of Belldandy.

The Belldandy saga reached a hilarious conclusion, when on one of his many mysterious reappearances under another nick (HALO Fan), he was sussed by the lot of us and nevertheless proceeded to dispute it for several months, despite have all the curt mannerisms and blind flag-wankery that good old Bell had. It stopped being fun when we finally saw a picture of him on Special Observe, then realised our physical name calling was disturbingly prophetic.

There have been others, but none as more fun to bait as Belldandy.

Aaah, I actually laugh at what is said here from time to time. It may be inundated with muppets these days, but it's still funny to post here and lurch.

My few memories:

- "I go to the gym! I'll scan my gymcard in if you don't believe me!" - Kyz/Paradox. Aaah. Also, when he created "Leprachaun" and pretended to live in Cork. It was funny, until one day when he posted how "gloriously sunny" it was outside, and that he'd been getting a tan all day. It was going well until I linked to BBC weather online, which showed thunderstorms over Cork for the whole day.

- The whole WS/Fina thing.

- gerrid, what was that really random news post that won you GAD? I seem to remember spitting out whatever I was drinking at the time.

I'm sure there's loads of other stuff, but they were the few that I could remember.

Hmm. Was after I returned from a long absence, which was in fact fairly recently. Couldn't've been more than 6 months back. Possibly 8 at the most.

EDIT: But then my perception of large passages of time is fairly poor so I could be way out :-)

peddle your pedantry elsewhere, there's no room for it here.

Anyone remember to the nearest 6 months when that thread was?

I'll go through them all to find it, I'm that keen

Hahah. Reading through this has brought back some memories. I'll just list a few of my favourites, some funny some (well, one) genuinely touching, might elucidate on them later if anyone's interested:

- The FOG Stories <-- The stuff of legend
- The old WLT days, with Ali (not Snuggles), Phil, Jess and Gaz.
- Goaty's thread about his car crash
- Bell. Obviously.
- The arguments with Forrest Fan. Absolutely hilarious. I didn't really take part (same with Bell actually) but I read everything. Read everything and laughed.
- The Indiana Jones next instalment name thread. Can't believe no one's mentioned this yet. That made me truly understand the phrase "tears of mirth".
- Shaneo. Hahaha.
- Spider & Spider II. This guy was either an absolute spastic or a comic genius.
- Dringo's revelation of "Neal" as the firestarter and the spate of jokes, puns and general pish-taking that followed.
- Time_Warp just in general. Great guy.
- Cub!st's threads about "X" followed by proclamations of homosexuality and then basically shouting "I'M GAY!!!!! I'M A REPRESSED MINORITY!!!" at every opportunity.

*sighs and takes off rose-tinted specs*

EDIT: By the way, OddToe, what was your old name?

EDIT EDIT: Ahhh, Dan2K1. Now there's a name I haven't seen in a long time.

Except I pointed out that being of a certain religious persuasion did not mean you were the same race as most people of that religion.

He wasn't being racist but he was showing signs of religious hatred.

His gripe was based on religion and not race.

Oh hell yes that's right!
"I'd smack his face off wiv my karatedog" and various other boasts that were all topped by that random gypsy boxer who said he'd give him some dobermans and Kurds.
