I bought craxy taxi for the PS2 yesterday and I am very disapointed with myself. This is not because the game is bad which it certainly isn't. I am disapointed because I have subcontiously joined the ranks of those who say that graphics do not matter. I used to be against this arguement but I now forgive crazy taxi for its terrible pop-up in favour of admiring its gameplay and addictiveness. Has this happened to anyone else? How can I possibly forgive pop-up in this day and age?

I'd also point out that the conversion was done by Acclaim and not sega...

the reason is that Acclaim hold right to Ferrari games in the west, and therefore foir F355 to be brought out Sega needed to make a deal with them... which included making 3 dc games on other consoles.

No it is not! The reason is that the PS2 processes images in completely different ways which means a different 3d engine. Now, this would take ages to do properly, so the developers ssimply copies as much as they could without optimising it...

The result is that there is pop-up, and there are jaggies.. the DC does Anti-aliasing autatically, and the PS2 does not. Although this means that AA on the PS2 can be done better and is more flexible, it also means more programming time... so they used a poor AA technique!

Another small problem is that PS2s are hard to program for making transparent surfaces... so the windscreen in the cars aren't as good as the DC original!

Basically, the PS2 is hard to program for, developers of this game are lazy, and just because the PS2 can perfrom better than the DC, this doesn't automatically equal better games!

Yeah, its all Acclaims fault. Anyway I am now getting bored of crazy taxi and thought I'd use this topic to ask if anyone has any records that they think are good, either high scores or crazy box records? I won't put mine on just yet in case they suck ;)

Pop up, is not caused by the console, but by bad programming or compenstating for other formats.

YES!!! Thats more like it! Is metal gear 2 going to be as good? I have only seen one video that doesn't show much as it is just snake walking along a bridge in a cloak accompanied by strange music. Damn that secretive Hideo Kojima. Sorry Kojima-san I did not mean it, grovel grovel, please make it as good.
