No they didnt actually. real madrid won it but finished 6th, and real zaragoza finished 4th, suffice to say, real zaragoza got the final euro spot and real madrid were not allowed to defend their title.

What would happen is big clubs would just rest their top players, and it would become another crappy league cup.

I'm sure if it was pointed out to the club's chairmen that the club would gain some extra revenue from the replay there'd be a sudden interest in scrapping the penalties and going back to the old way

Nah, the big clubs would whine too much about tired players.

I still think it'd be best if they brought back indefinite replays.
