Simple stupid question, those of you who drive, was it like a learning curve or was it just like "click" one lesson and you could do it?

I officially quit driving today until further notice, mostly because I fear for my own life whilst driving, also partly due to lack of money.

Is it just "one of those things" that some people do naturally and others struggle to adapt to, or am I just completely carp (yes, carp) at it for no understandable reason?

I don't scream out loud if you're crap and thought, "oh, I'd have hit that cyclist!"

When I was learning but was sitting as a passenger I imaged what I'd be doing if I was driving: indicators, mirror etc. Don't criticise the driver, though!

14 max. If you get 15 you're out. But if you get 15 minors you can't drive anyway and shouldn't be taking your test. 8 is the average.

Do you know how many minors you're allowed to have?

I was told I was a natural.

Just seemed to click. Although sometimes early one I stil needed to think about the pedals and when to change gears and such it soon became second nature.

11 lessons later, I passed with 5 minor faults.

It took me a while to get the hang of it when I started. Then you think you have the hang of it for a couple of lessons and *BAM!!* you stall the car or something like that and you think you're rubbish again. If it were a graph it would kind of go up and down, but with an overall increase. You have good days and bad days. Just keep trying and you'll get there. Ive been driving for two years nearly and its just second nature to me. You dont think about it at all.

I've had about 17 lessons and I've been "good" before. He said I should put in for my test and suchlike but he's a silly old fool anyway. I think I might change instructors due to the fact I don't much trust his ability to stop me ploughing into a bus and he can't spell my name correctly. Plus he gets really agrivated when I make a mistake which sort of makes me a little sheepish.

I think I'll rest until after my exams and then get it sorted this summer when I'll be bordering on carefree.

Thanks for the tips, I'm sure I'll stick with it and end up doing it eventually, just needed reassurance.

I had my very first lesson today. Nerves was overtaking me at first.. but I gradually became more confident and find it easy on the end. I was doing well until the stupid woman told me to drive on the main road.. my feet was shaking.. I had sweat buckets load. I was doing over 40 mph in a 40mph road... it was scary

Less a curve ... more like a set of steps for me.
Rubbish for ages, then leapt up to faintly competant, stayed there for ages, then upwards again.

Top class, now - got my test soon.
