Yes, I know there's some other election happening today, but coming this time next week is the vote that can really make a difference to people's lives - UKchatforums.com Notable.

Every three months the regulars of the board vote to give one member "Notable" status. The colour of their name (which is changed to Gold) and their member title is the only difference that you'll see, but the increased fear and respect from their peers will be obvious to all.

The vote will be held on Thursday 12th May. There will be an official voting thread put up in General Chat on Thursday morning, and you'll get until midnight to place your vote. Unfortunately JATs and Newbies are unable to vote, this will be for Regulars and Notables only.

This time round, as well as your normal vote for Notable, you'll also be able to vote for someone to relinquish their Notable status and rejoin the ranks of the Regulars. Use it wisely.

So next Thursday then. Don't forget it.

I personally feel a lot of people over estimate just what it means to the people who are actually notables. Your name changes colour, you gain slightly more respect, big deal. Most of the notables are people who don't mind what people think about them anyway, so extra respect is simply a bonus - not a necessity. I doubt many of them would actually care if they had the urine extracted from them and became purple again.

I missed my chance of winning one of these things. Last two times the next day I've had serveral people say they meant to vote me, which would have pushed me over the edge. Meh.

I don't post enough anymore to be considered worth a lot of votes, but one or two would still be nice, (Tim, Russ, Alec I thank ye').

I'm like the Lib Dems. Everyone wants to vote for me, but it ends up being a two-horse race early on and so everyone just votes for the lesser of the two evils.

That is so true.

[S]Voted Lib Dem and the Lib Dems got in in Cambridge. Yey!

erm, if you don't want to vote for anyone to leave, just vote for the new notable and leave it?

There's a wealth of people that deserve to be voted into the Notable status. Just a case of deciding which one I prefer.

Voting an existing Notable off isn't quite so easy. They never really bother me and are generally the friendliest people on the forum. Will probably be a "name out of the hat" type of thing.

if they're only staying here because they have a fancy name, that's just sad.

I'm still unsure who I'm going to vote for, bothing in and off. At the end of the day there's a bias towards the 'main candidates' in each election, basically there always seems to be a group of about 4 people that are getting all the votes per election and others who get maybe a couple of votes each

As for voting off, I don't particularly want to vote anyone off. I don't really see quite why getting rid of people who've passed the users vote in the first place need to be removed for exclusivity value. There is a lot of Notable slating at the moment, from relative n00bs, however it's important to remember they were voted on in the first place whether they do or don't seem slightly musty or they never post

At the end of the day there was a select group that campaigned for getting rid of a Notable per election and I don't really want to get rid of any, none of them have done anything wrong (at least to me) Do I have to vote one off ?

I suppose like everything people get past their prime and should 'retire' from their roles as Notables but to get rid of most the talent (because that's what they are, whether or not they've become lazy) would mean electing a squad of uber-n00bs who you like via something like MSN. Many decent users would migrate to other places if they lost their Notable status, which would be a shame. The election shouldn't be a popularity contest, the ones you like being voted on

Well, that's all I have to say

Somehow I doubt anybody has voted for me. I mean what makes a notable different from a regular.
