My friend has his PS2 plugged through his video using the S-Video cable that comes with his PS2. When he plays DVDs he gets problems with the picture flashing dark and light.

Is there anything he can do to sort this out? Like getting a different scart cable?

~Thanks~

The company I was thinking of was called techtronics, but doesnt seem to exist anymore. I have found an FAQ that may be of use to you http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.11

According to a site i've just stumbled across, you can remove Macrovision (thats the name of the copy protection software by the way, the thing you want to bypass) by either altering the insides with a soldering iron (which isnt really the best option) or performing a "Hack" with a remote control. Most of the hacks are to stop region encoding, but if you look throught the lists you should find some that stop the Macrovision. The down side here is you'll need to buy a new DVD player (unless you have one thats hackable already, of course). So basically, if you have look through the list and find some that are hackable to be Macrovision free and buy the cheapest one of them.

Thats all i really know about this. Sorry I cant help any more than that.

Just to stress one point. Its the "Macrovision" that you are trying to bypass. If you can get a player that does, it should work fine.

Edit:- forgot to post the link

Ah, that sorta happened to me with my copy of the Incredibles. The screen kept going red, it gets really annoying, all the other films are OK though

Not so. I remember testing a load of DVD's on it to see if every one didn't work and about one in ten were fine.

I seem to remember LOTR: Fellowship was one of the ones that was ok.

Well its in both. Obviously if there is non on the particular DVD then it wont be affected. What I meant was that to completely bypass the problem for every DVD you need to alter the hardware. Or something like that.
