I'm godmother to my niece and when she was christened I had to vow or something that I'll teach her about God, but I haven't so far.
Do you reckon I should take her to church or something? My godparents never took me to church :o( Infact no one knows for sure who my Godparents are.
> So they had their daughter Christened because...?
I really have no idea. At a guess, my friend's parents. And probably because to them, it seems like a fashionable thing to do. ?

Godparents are sponsors into the church at certain rites. I think being chosen as a Godparent is very honourable indeed, and the "vow" is pretty much a reiteration of your faith. To reject satan and all that..
The responsibility is to be an example of Christ's love for this child. My sister christened her baby after birth while she was in an incubator with breathing problems. I was the Godmother by proxy..which means, someone stood in for me because I was on the other side of the world at the time. Even so, we prayed over the phone together for little Yvetta's lungs to get stronger.
The baptism is to cleanse the soul of venial sin from the former life...or so, I've heard. The Christening is to bring Jesus into your heart.
It's all traditional ritualism, yeah..but, ones I believe in wholeheartedly. I had Godparents at my Baptism, First Holy Communion, and at my Confirmation. All different people, of course..but, they're all such wonderful, beautiful people that I feel so honoured to have a part of my life.
Tis a blessing all the way around. :o)~~

You're getting rid of Original Sin which we inherited from Adam after he started eating the apple in the Garden of Eden.
[ed] Although, isn't it always Eve who gets blamed for it?
Hence the whole Church-hating-women shizzle.

That's just sad. And for the record, I never forget that. Especially, in these forums.
