Never liked this "comedy". Fail to see what's so great about it. The fact that Gervais is a tool doesn't help its cause.

The joy of the office is, it's observational, anyone who has ever worked in an office, will look at it and think 'Yeah, that's true, that's funny, I should have thought about it like that before'. If you've never worked in an office, then obviously you're at a disadvantage.
The brilliance is in the fact that Gervais thinks he is so popular, while the whole office resents him.

Not sure, but it's doubtful it'll top the sheer brilliance of The Office. Gervais as the protagonist again leaves me with doubts - he should just go behind the camera now, or just have a cameo appearance.

I disagree. He's a performer, look at Animals and Politics. Every joke is delivered with superb accuracy and flawless timing.
