Never liked this "comedy". Fail to see what's so great about it. The fact that Gervais is a tool doesn't help its cause.

Watch something humorous enough times and quoting becomes dead easy.

I disagree. Sure, there's the chav idiots whose quoting capacity extends to only "Yeah, I know", and "Aiiii", but I have quoted The Office many-a-time, and I think it's greatly quotable. Not as much as Red Dwarf, but still, it's up there.

I'd be seriously worried if anyone found it funny.
That's not the point.

It was a drawn-out string of painful embarrassment. It just was Brent, in dance form. Not funny, not trying to be.

It's not meant to be funny most of the time.
Don't rate it based on how many laughs you get ... that is, again, not the point.

Damn that spelling.

Fact is, though, The Office is genius once you know a bit of background on the characters. Me and jimooney watched the entire second series in one night. Good fun.

Not a bad explanation it's just, that can't be the only reason why the Office is successful/different to other comedies

The Office is funny for a reason which nobody can truly understand. I think the main reason that some people don't particularly like it is the fact that there is very little that is quotable from it. Whereas most other successful comedies (Ali G, Little Britain, Bo Selecta etc.) have bits that are quoted by the masses over and over, The Office had very few bits like that.

Poor explaination, yus.

I never got into the office, so to speak, and so never really understood the brilliance.

I got the 'office-connection' doo-hickey, and the identifying with the characters, just never the comedy. The dance wasn't funny whatsoever and...well..that's it.

Can anyone convince me why I should persevere and watch more?
