The reason why I ask is: I have a very good friend that I haven't seen in quite a while, who stutters and I don't know how to respond..I mean do I wait for her to finish her sentences which can be a long time, but conversation is about turn taking right? Or do I interrupt her and finish her conversations for her, which Might be rude?

And then there are the long silences while she is trying to say something - how do I know if she is finished....and I love her to bits but I feel so uncomfortable around her, I don't know why?

Have any of y'all experienced this? Tell me how you respond to a stutterer? What do you feel - embarassment, irritation ....WHy?

you can also email me at [email protected]

Need some advice.

My best friend in secondary school had a stutter.

The trick is, you just look into their eyes when they speak and instead of like looking agitated and sort of looking around or playing with your hair while they speak, just look at them the same way you speak to someone who can talk fluidly and focus on what theyre saying, so like even if it takes them 2 minutes to get a sentence out thats meant to be funny, make sure your focused on it and you laugh at the joke. If you hang onto their words like that they feel so much more secure and there stutter actually eases up a little

Don't correct sentances. It'll be seen as you mocking her stutter also if there's a long silence after a random word then wait for her to say something for about 15 seconds if she doesn't saying anything just ask something along the lines off "you were going to say something?" or a question like that.

Sorted. SnoopDogg and Killer you really are no help at all.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
