Here's the situation.

My processor is an AMD 2600+ XP (edited this, it's higher than I thought)

However the clock speed is 1.17 GHz

I'm led to beleive I can jack this up to at least 1.5GHz

My RAM (if relevent) is 256 MB (not sure if thats important).

I know I'd have to do something in the BIOS however I'm not sure what, im a bit of a novice, so if you can help me I'll be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Changed frequency multiple to 15x and external freq to 133 and I've only got 1.53 MHz

Is there something else I have to change?

I can quite clearly see that your multiplier is still set to 11.5 from that screenshot. Go back and try setting the multiplier again, to 16x. If it won't go up to 16x then it's possible your BIOS doesn't officially support your processor. You can rectify this by updating the BIOS, the latest version is available here: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/selectftp.aspx?l1_id=1&l2_id=10&l3_id=21&m_id=2&f_name=A7v8xx13.zip~zaqwedc

Double-checked my bios and the changes are being registered - it had an effect originally and changed it from 1.15 to 1.53 but it wont go above that.

Odd.

Your 2600+ CPU is a Barton model 10.

This has a front side bus of 166 MHz and the multiplier is locked at 11.5X inside the core of the CPU which is why you can’t change it.

Up the bus speed to 166 MHz from 133MHz and ignore the multiplier in the Bios as it won’t have any effect. The CPU will then be running at 1917 MHz which will be to AMD designed specs for the processor and will not have any thermal implications. The A7V8X motherboard supported this CPU from the start so you should not have to upgrade the bios.

Hope this helps.
