Actually. Alot of bands don't. Where as bands like Greenday (*cough*sellouts*cough*), do make alot.

you'd IMAGINE so, but that's really part of the mystique of a job such as theirs. people assume it to be stress free, self dictated and lots of fun.
it isn't. they're employees and they have people ot answer to the same as the rest of us. they just get paid lots more :D
Time of Your Life
Minority
Waiting
Warning
Brain Stew
They are my favourite Green Day songs.
But you would imagine the band get a decent say in the matter, wouldn't you?
but you have you realise that even a band of green days level still have management and record labels to answer to. they may get a little more creative freedom for their albums, but it's ultimately about advances, returns and profits. if management says that you're going to play TOTP while you're in the UK, then by cracky that's what you're going to be doing.
EDIT: Hehe, Metallica indeed.

*points at Metallica*

that's pure speculation.
some liked it, some didn't. some were already fans, some weren't.

there can't have been many people for whom "american idiot" was their first experience of Green Day.

good grief.
so by your rationale, selling out is when people have heard of you.
surely that's just the marketing/PR departments doing their jobs?
They're sellouts if I ever saw some :-(
