Why are people so amazed that the Xbox is NOT £400??? Microsoft know just as much about the industry as Sony. FULLSTOP.

And the fact that Microsoft have a competitively priced console, good second party games (Microsoft BOUGHT bungie so that Halo will be on Xbox... what about Sony?) and a very well built console. On top, they have huge marketting and a good list of supporting developers.

Of course, Sony didn't enter the market with all of the above and kill the competition?

And the reply to this topic:
OH NO! But it's made my MS! Kill Bill and all that!

Neither Sega, Nintendo nor MS have a proper base in the UK... yet (except for the $1=£1 idea) there have been no price increases. Even though they are all paying distributers.

Er-no, where did you get this mythical idea?

The PS2 will drop in price, infact in some shops you can now pick it up brand new for £249.00...
The price tag that was placed onto the 'crashing' Xbox was $299.99, this was called a realistic price tag and meaning it could go up or down, but knowing Microsoft it most probably will go a bit up...

The Xbox will ship with something, I have heard they are gonna to place in every box a profile picture of Bill Gates,

The price will not

Look... New Jimmy is on to something... XBOX IS LIKE EVERY OTHER CONSOLE. The fact that it is made by Ms has no input into the console. It will, like EVERY other console in the last 5years (bar the N64s initial price) be sold for less than it's worth. That is a fact. Why people use bias and think that because it's made by Ms it must be different is beyond me. The part of MS that makes windows and the part that makes games is v different (the person who controls the games at MS is NOT bill gates- it is J Allard... who was a highly acclaimed games producer since the Commodore years and before!)

Many items have increased in price when being released over here, Sony have a base in the UK, a large one at that, Microsoft don't and with the GeForce3 they can't afford to release the console at that price in the UK, all Microsoft and Windows items have grown in price when being brought over for sale in the UK, with this in mind, Microsoft will probably not keep the $299 price tag on the machine, and this was just an estimated guess, many people thought the PS2 was going to be the same price as the PS at launch, Sony avertised well and are now doing great business for the full price of £299.

Microsoft and price-tags don't go well, but with the fierce competition of a sub £200 Gamecube, your guess is as good as mine...

The X-box will have to cost less than or the same as the price of the PS2, i.e. £299. Otherwise nobody will by the machine, unless of course a higher price is justified as it is more than just a games machine i.e. modem as standard etc.

The price will not increase, Microsoft intend to initially lose money on the X-box hardware and they have the bank balance to lose alot of money initially.

Ummmmmm... why will the price rise??? Did u see this happen to the PSX? No? Then it won't happen with the Xbox. The only thing that will happen is $299 will become £299... but no other price increase. This is what has happened with every other console in the last 5 year, so it will happen with the xbox too.

Another biased post? Why should ms be different to Sony in pricing?

The console will go up in price, that was not a finalised tag, and even if it was it was a tag for America, let me do some ((((Microsoft)))) sums

Yes its true, the price will rise, and it will probably rise in the other parts of the world as well, the reason is if Microsoft can convince people now that the XBox will be a console with an ok price, then people will begin to back it now and demand will be great, and with this demand they cn rise the price up until two weeks before the console is launched to whatever figure suits them, which will be around my mark, If Microsoft were to release the console with the current price-tag they would lose so much money it would be terrible for them as a share-holding business, if they 'say' the price is that now they lose nothing.

Microsoft are the American Conservative party, there figures just don't add up...
