amongst the people i know, and we are a nice jovial happy bunch and into our sport, i have to say i don't know many people who like her. There is something about her that dosn't lend her to being liked and i hate all the false emotion round everyone celebrating one of the most poinless acheivements in sporting history. Nobody really cares ok well maybe the 2% of the population who regularly sail might care slightly but from those who i know, who do none of them seem to care either. I would go so far as to say shewould be the person i would most like to banish from the public eye. she annoys me greatly

Indeed, it's not as if it's a major record which created 'sporting history' as I heard on the radio this morning.

If someone asked me in 10 years time, who I thought made significant sporting history, the likes of Steven Redgrave come to mind. I don't think id even remeber Ellen Mcarthurs name let alone what she did.

I believe it is a great achievement for both herself and her team. It must take a lot of stamina and determination to complete the task. Even though the boat was built specifically for her, this task and she had the latest technology to keep her in touch when she wasn't pointing the thing in the right direction.

That is as far as my thoughts on this go. I couldn't care less that she broke a record that was set only 12 months ago and which will be broken again, inevitably, very shortly.
