Stop talkig out your ass - I'm not blabbling about 'British hero' crap.
She sailed around the world. Faster than anyone before. Alone. Non-stop.
Can your brain even comprehend how BIG the world is? How dangerous it is?

i fail to see a point to what she achieved, and if anyone says "a wonderful feat of human achievement and endurance" i may be forced to beat them.
a wonderful human achievement is: Irrigating african villages so people can eat, going over and helping tsunami victims reconstruct their homes
examples of human endurance: Bravo two zero, surviving on 1400 calories average consumption per capita a day and not bitching into a webcam about it (1400 is the average in most african nations).
EM has achieved nothing on a national scale, nothing for us to celebrate, however she has made a huge achievement on a personal scale and maybe for her friends and family, to me this is as far as it goes!
OR
Scoring a goal in a football match.
Oh my god, the over paid nobhead wins again!
What she did was superb.
It was not pointless.
She deserves some form of recognition. One must remember, these names were not originally awarded to commoners, but to nobles and people of honour and prestige (supposedly). And, you never hear about the disabled workers/Aid people etc who get awards. My step-grandfather (wonderful person), has an OBE.
That said it takes a lot to do what she did and I know that I could not do it, not that I would wish to :-)
She sailed around the world, by herself, non-stop, faster than anyone else ever.
Nah, she's not all that.
