So with a new PC comes along new ways. You see, on this PC I'll automatically open up Internet Explorer without a thought for the Internet. But when the new PC comes along I hope to break that habit.
So with that, I was thinking, what other programs are there that I SHOULD be using? Or just programs that are essential to have and you always find yourself using?
Hit me.

Loads of pictures I work with or take from the net require QT. Some downloadable videos too.
I don't advise anyone gets RealPlayer. I just found it awful and had problems with more recent versions. Safety was an issue too. Same with WMP. I have it for some music, but it's a huge security risk when connected to the internet.

Yes. It's actually very similliar to the 7zip thing, but it has all the same functions as WinZip, but also allows you to open, as you mentioned, .rar files.
I prefer WinZip... But that's just me.
Also, WinACE opens .rar files too, but it's better.

The reason it hasn't been mentioned is because it sucks.
RealPlayer 10 Basic
or

I personally like RP for films, DVDs etc, and WMP for quick looks at things, like internet clips etc.

I didn't know this was a piece of software, I just thought it was a file name (.rar) that certain downloads came as. It was like they were zipped. So is WinRAR just like WinZip?
Sygate Firewall
Windows Media Player/MusicMatch Jukebox
AVG Anti-virus
One that hasn't been mentioned:
QuickTime
Looks bad, too.
Firefox
Thunderbird (email client also by mozilla)
If you're using XP, get TuneXP
Ad-Aware/SpySweeper combo
WinRAR
Ah, the wonder of having an iPod.
A few years ago, I thought Roxio was pretty decent. But then again, I don't have that now.
Anyone?
Oh and Tyla, cheers for the heads up on the extensions...

It's as good as Nero. Not liking it is not the same thing as it not being good.
