Yes, I know that's what you all thought when you read the title and I probably would have thought the same thing too if one of you had posted this last year.
But...
The fact is I was actually starting to like them. OK the lyrics are crap and just make you laugh most of the time but there's something that they have that most pop acts don't have. Talent.
"omg u r jokeing dey dont av talent!!11"
It all started with ~that~ performance on Top of the Pops; the one where they sang live but only pretended to play the guitar and had a ghost drummer playing for them too. (As in we could all hear the drums but couldn't see where they were coming from!)
They've got that bad image from their early days and they can't shake it off. This is going to go against them obviously but they've still done really well. They've actually gained a lot of respect from me over the last year as they're now playing live, properly. They've got a drummer, they play live AND sing live too. If you didn't know their background they could easily be mistaken for a band that was formed from a few mates and were not manufactured like they were.
Look at the charts too, see the crap in there? The top 10 at the moment is probably the best I've seen it in ages, all the songs are at worst OK, apart from the X Factor one which is a cover and was only at number one because it was from X Factor. Just think of what it's like most weeks though with stupid one-hit-wonder-cover-versions flooding the place!
As much as we want to hate these 'rock bands' that keep popping up you've got to give them some support as they're helping to change the music scene away from songs such as 'F U Right Back' and 'Babycakes.' Could you imagine if Busted didn't exist but in place we had another (proper) boy band that just churned out crap over and over and never sang live? What would you rather have?
I also know they're gonna be making a new 'band' and are having auditions after the McFly gig. Everyone here moaned about it being crap but I'm gonna support them purely because although they'll be horribly manfactured they'll have a lot more talent than all the other crap in the charts. Plus after a few years when they mature they WILL start writing their own material just like Busted did. Unless they all argue and pull a 'One True Voice!'
I'd so rather have the charts full of Busted and McFly style bands than most of the other stuff in there because even though most songs will be crap there will still be songs in there that you will really like. McFly have released a few really good songs, Busted have released a couple of good'uns including Year 3000 which despite it's crappy lyrics is a great sing-a-long student song! This is also why I think Avril Lavigne is good, some songs are crap but most of them are pretty good when you compare them to others. She's doing her bit too to rid the charts of poo.
All in all though, you've gotta support them as they're helping sort music out. You'd be a complete idiot if you thought everyone was going to be buying 'proper' music so we may as well support the stuff in the charts that is gapping the void between utter crap and the 'good stuff!'
If they don't make their own music and don't sing live then they deserve every bit of a b********g that they get, but if they play and sing live you've gotta give it up to them as they've got talent, somewhere...

Ahhh, getcha now. I have no exposure to the Box or Smash Hits.
I don't know what I'm trying to say really. I guess it's that I agree with Tilt, but I'm one of the holyer than thou people...
Now lets look at it this way, all kiddies like Girls Aloud because they've got boobies.
Busted come along, (I know this is all out of time and stuff but anyway,) they come along and all the kiddies think, "Wooooo, this is cool, I'll buy their music."
They then hear Good Charlotte and think the same, they've gone from liking Girls Aloud to liking Good Charlotte, so Good Charlotte become the 'craze.'
Then Green Day starts to get played and the kids then realise that they like Green Day and buy their music. They've gone from Girls Aloud to Green Day.
Busted are no way the best thing but they got things started and have boosted the popularity in non-manufactured music by quite a bit.

So you'd rather I go on about how cool Babycakes is? And how Scooter releases great songs? And how Girls Aloud are great live performers?

No, it's insulting to music in general, regardless of genre, when people defend Busted. Simple.

You're not seeing the point. Their fanbase has always been big but they would never have got airplay on The Box and Smash Hits unless pop-rock had taken off like it has. The fact that so many kids are into McFly and Busted meant that they went out and bought Green Day's album too.
Green Day's genre of music would never have been played on Smash Hits before Busted came along. As soon as pop-rock took off then 'proper-rock' was starting to make a more mainstream appearance.
I guess I sort of see Busted as another set of performers.
Don't dig their music, and you can judge a DJ by whether they think it's suitable for a night club (along with you can judge them if the cockbites feel the need to mute the music every 10 seconds to shout "YEAH!", "ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?!?!?, "PUT YOUR HANDS UP IN THE AIR!!!") but I've nothing against them, and as pop music goes, I've heard better but I've heard worse too!
:-)

I don't underatand, Green Day have been around for years, and the first single off a new album ALWAYS gets a huge amount of publicity and airplay. Busted has feck all to do with it.

OK it would still have been a great success but it would NEVER have got the publicity that it has got if the pop-rock stuff never took off.
EVERY pop channel has played their video, the Box never used to play anything rock but now plays quite a bit, same as Smash Hits and other similar channels.
