Yes, I know that's what you all thought when you read the title and I probably would have thought the same thing too if one of you had posted this last year.
But...
The fact is I was actually starting to like them. OK the lyrics are crap and just make you laugh most of the time but there's something that they have that most pop acts don't have. Talent.
"omg u r jokeing dey dont av talent!!11"
It all started with ~that~ performance on Top of the Pops; the one where they sang live but only pretended to play the guitar and had a ghost drummer playing for them too. (As in we could all hear the drums but couldn't see where they were coming from!)
They've got that bad image from their early days and they can't shake it off. This is going to go against them obviously but they've still done really well. They've actually gained a lot of respect from me over the last year as they're now playing live, properly. They've got a drummer, they play live AND sing live too. If you didn't know their background they could easily be mistaken for a band that was formed from a few mates and were not manufactured like they were.
Look at the charts too, see the crap in there? The top 10 at the moment is probably the best I've seen it in ages, all the songs are at worst OK, apart from the X Factor one which is a cover and was only at number one because it was from X Factor. Just think of what it's like most weeks though with stupid one-hit-wonder-cover-versions flooding the place!
As much as we want to hate these 'rock bands' that keep popping up you've got to give them some support as they're helping to change the music scene away from songs such as 'F U Right Back' and 'Babycakes.' Could you imagine if Busted didn't exist but in place we had another (proper) boy band that just churned out crap over and over and never sang live? What would you rather have?
I also know they're gonna be making a new 'band' and are having auditions after the McFly gig. Everyone here moaned about it being crap but I'm gonna support them purely because although they'll be horribly manfactured they'll have a lot more talent than all the other crap in the charts. Plus after a few years when they mature they WILL start writing their own material just like Busted did. Unless they all argue and pull a 'One True Voice!'
I'd so rather have the charts full of Busted and McFly style bands than most of the other stuff in there because even though most songs will be crap there will still be songs in there that you will really like. McFly have released a few really good songs, Busted have released a couple of good'uns including Year 3000 which despite it's crappy lyrics is a great sing-a-long student song! This is also why I think Avril Lavigne is good, some songs are crap but most of them are pretty good when you compare them to others. She's doing her bit too to rid the charts of poo.
All in all though, you've gotta support them as they're helping sort music out. You'd be a complete idiot if you thought everyone was going to be buying 'proper' music so we may as well support the stuff in the charts that is gapping the void between utter crap and the 'good stuff!'
If they don't make their own music and don't sing live then they deserve every bit of a b********g that they get, but if they play and sing live you've gotta give it up to them as they've got talent, somewhere...

I have.
I never said that Busted hadn't. I didn't comment on if they were a good band or a bad band. A good influence or a bad influence.
I only said that I don't like their music.
I only insulted you for reasoning with Green Day and Good Charlotte.
Sheesh.
:D

Read Niddle's post.
You've missed the point too.
Busted have INCREASED the exposure to the alternate/rock genre of music.

Oh, FFS.
I don't think this simple idea is getting to you here.
Greenday had a big fan-base before Busted came, right?
Then Busted came alog and got people to listen to pop-rock (even their managers call it that).
Then people thought 'Oooo, that pop-rock sounds cool, I'd like t olisten to more pop-rock/rock'
Then MORE people listened to Greenday et al.
Therefore Greenday's fan-base is bigger than it was before Busted came along.
Can it be that hard to understand simple logic?
Oh, and don't bother with the whole 'Busted killed the industry!!!11' of every person who listens to rock. Because quite frankly, they didn't. If a band don't make it big, there's a reason for that. (e.g. they're crap, but only liked because they underground, or they don't know the right people, or they're rubbish performers..).. There's a reason a lot of music is underground, and that's quite simple, really; Nobody'll buy it.

WTF are you on about? I agreed with you when you said Busted are better than your average pop act such as the BabyCakes trio, but how on earth you can think they helped people to like Greenday is beyond me. I was a Greenday fan before Busted were even an idea in some fatcats head. They had great success for many years before and already had a loyal fanbase befre Busted came along. The Greenday album would have still been a success without them ever existing.
The acoustics in your cavities are wonderful.

I don't know what's proved this, but:
"OMG! WTF? LOL"
Would be what I would say out loud if my only method of communicating wasn't via the keyboard.

It's not an either, or question, though.
I'd think neither would be the best solution for anyone over the age of 12.
Why do you care so much about the charts?
Just let the preteens listen to whatever they like until they grow some taste like everyone else before them.

Except Cub!st, Memo, Gerrid and OMG WTF LOL.
The charts are the domain of the under 10's.
Deal with it.
It's known that young people go for pop and easy, image based music.
It's known people don't go the other way.
It's also a good opinion to have when you don't think that anyone should like Good Charlotte or Green Day's latest stuff.
