I know about the 8 string and I thought it was so cool. They did a song that is 21 minutes long and its bloody great.

Very few true hard rock bands mentioned so far (At least in the traditional sense), to my mind- I personally reccomend UFO, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Van Halen, Whitesnake and MSG.
