With magazines starting the hype early about the PS3, Xbox 2 and GC2 it had me thinking who will win next time? Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo? Here are my views on the sucess of each current console.

I have had a Gamecube, Xbox and currently own a PS2, so i can honestly give an accurate review about this subject.

PS2: Sold literally millions upons millions of consoles. Big sucess helped because of hype and the amount of varied games to choose from.

Xbox: For the first console by Microsoft is was a great effort. This is the most powerful console and did sell very well.

Gamecube:

Now, i don't want to sound 'against' Nintendo, but this really was a lousy excuse for a console. The graphics power and processor are faster than the PS2, but the games do not use the power.
There maybe some 'Nintendo Zealots' who will defend their console to the end, but the fact is, it sold barely any units and alot of their games are childish. Some games that i had are really good, such as Super Mario: Sunshine and Eternal Darkness, but with some games developers choosing not to make any games for the console doesn't help. In the beginning stores were taking the GC off their shelves and this limited the sucess of the Gamecube. I don't mean to sound biased, but i do think its fair to say that the other two consoles have done much better.

So what do you people think? I wish each 'new console' ( PS3, Xbox 2 and GC2) good luck in terms of sales and can't wait for the next console war to unfold...

I'm taking bets on the entire 1st gen of PS3's breaking just after the year warranty has passed.

1/500000 at the moment.

Any takers?

if so - i would get the PS3. i skipped this gen having bought the N64 (best of the prev gen) before that. but having seen the quality of the PS2, if PS3 is <-- compatible...

Oh joy, another round of consoles for people to come up with stupid reasons for being the best, just because they happen to own it.

I look forward to this new 'war' with the same vigour that I look forward to having open-heart surgery.

No one really knows what's coming next, and when. For all we know, there might not be. Extremely doubtful, but that's how much we know.

Rumours have been going around about the PS3 sinse the PS2 was released, the idea of an XBOX 2 hasnt been quite so much talked about because xbox owners are generally happy enough with what the xbox can do, but there is still the rumour of it coming out (I was led to beleive, ages ago Halo 2 will be a release title with it, but obviously not.)
Gamecube on the other hand, were are the rumours?? No idea. There seems to be no obvious indication of a Gamecube 2, or that nintendo are even doing another console.

At the minute we know nintendo as being the masters of handhelds, they have sold more GBA's then any other console around (i beleive). As you all know, sony seem to want a piece of that, so out comes the PSP.
Unlike the PS2, Sony jam packed the PSP with over the top specs, and this ofcourse made the DS look weak to some people. But nintendo still have sold more DS's due to better advertising and cheaper production.

I think with sony knowing that this technique did well, they will do the same with the PS3, and that is make it rediculously over the top. And with the added extra of knowing people adore PS2, they will sell like hotcakes.

Now, Microsoft being the marketing giants that they are, will probably of already sussed this, and are probably making a console that matches the PS3 or maybe even beat it.

It's quite obvious to see that Sony and Microsoft are going to be battling to be the best. But, hiding in the corner, nintendo might have something planned. Why else would they keep so quiet? If they wernt going to do another, its usually like nintendo to say so.
Also remember, in japan, nintendo wins, i think nintendo have learnt from their mistakes with the medium spec GC and kiddish look and will deliver something to rivel both XBOX and PS3.
It's not like nintendo to just give in to bullies.

That's what i think anyway.
