This is tradegy of a phenominal scale. I cannot even contemplate that many human lives ending at once, and on christmas. Its a sick thing.

And they need to be told 10 times? That's once every 3 minutes (less actually as i'm counting the break as well). That strikes me as overkill. Plus i doubt they're all around the tv watching ITV for news

The word "rich" answers your question. MEDC's have the money to buy equipment to predict these disasters, the money to prepare for them (earthquake proof buildings with shock absorbers etc) and they have the money to spend on emergency services to help after the disaster. That is why the death toll is so much higher in the third world countries.

I was working, but I've seen the god-awful News 24 stuff. It's really BAD. It even has the silver-haired shotgun-toter from Wildest Police Videos shouting "gonner" and other random catchphrases.

Why is it the third world in particular and the southern hemisphere in general always get the bum deal? Industrial, rich nations get away with murder on a daily basis and never seem to suffer...If there really is a god he or she has a sickening up sense of humour :(
