BBC and Sky are reporting that the Pool have tabled a bid of £3.5 million for Morientes. But Real want £7 mill, which I don't think we have. Unless we accept the Morgan bid. Which we should.

I will be happy if Morientes comes to Anfield. Because, let's face it, he's awesome. And quite Spanish enough.

Do you mind re-reading my original comment?

"has become"

I don't deny what he has done in the past - he's been immense, I'm talking about more recently. This is also reflected in my international experience comment.

What? QUIET? Have you seen his record at international level? He didn't get that from one wonder-goal againast Argentina or a hatrick against Germany. He has consistently scored his goals for 6 years. Only Ronaldo and maybe Raul have been that consistent at this level for that long. I don't get the sudden Rooney-love. Wahey, you've scored a few goals at Euro 2004. Against who? Oh yes, Switzerland and Croatia. Well done. Oh, a hatrick for Man Utd? Ah, against Fenhebache. Bully for you. Now be consistent in the Premiership. Brilliant pennie against Crystal Palace, by the way.

Just because Mikey doesn't score runs from the halfway line every game. He did that ONCE. Brilliant goal, all agreed. But it means just as much as the countless times he's beaten a man for pace inside the penalty area, the times he's ALWAYS been the man on the end of a pass to tap it in.

I dunno, I think he's been doing pretty well. And I can't name many players who play better for their country than their club. I think Lampard is far better with Chelsea, Terry as well. I'd like to hear somebody who plays better for England than their club. Rooney perhaps being the only one.

I agree with this, though not with the Owen statement. Owen has become a quiet player at international level. Sure he's always there chasing but often he gets too easily muscled out of challenges. Defoe is the same.

To be honest though, Owen doesn't do any more than Defoe, and he's in the team every match. The one reason would be past experience.

It's not questionable.

Good to see you've seen sense on the Gerrard front, yeyu. I agree with the John Terry remark also. He has outperformed Sol and Rio so far this season in every way, though partly through the "other two" being unavailable. This takes nothing away from JT though; despite overall career wise Sol is my pick of the three, I think we have to see JT and Rio at the back for England. I don't feel enough has been said about Rio's sensational return to form since he came back, and he deserves a chance alongside JT to see if it works. After all, with Sol not getting any younger they are the future two at the heart of the England defence.

Its mutual, you're pretty much the best sports poster here; I'm just keeping you on your toes. :-D

Its called intelligent discussion, and its what the sport forum should be about. If I came off aggressive I didn't mean to.

Hat trick at the weekend and he's been scoring in the last few games. Jesus.

The "complete mare" bit was a joke, but he has definitely not been playing well for England, maybe the 3 up front doesn't suit him, I don't know - but he hasn't been showing the form he has at spurs.

This has nothing to do with how good he is. He is a quality player, I was just arguing that he hasn't been absolute quality in every England match. Defoe definitely deserves to be in the team, I'd even be tempted to put him ahead of Rooney. And Owen does look "in the game" quite often, maybe you just haven't watched those ones. Although I think everyone agrees "Mikey" is not the player he was.

I already said he scored a good goal, which I followed up with a Jesper joke, so "yawn" is all I have to say to your point about whether "i saw his goal and two good runs"....

Lampard and Terry are quality players, I don't think that's questionable to be honest, but I would think that in the games you are talking about John Terry would not have been playing (as he's behing Sol and Rio in the pecking order - for some obscure reason... :P)

As to your little "this player > this one" game, I think Gerrard and Lampard are just as good as each other, and would love to have Stevie at the Bridge. Look at the way they are both performing at the minute... If anything I would say I rate Gerrard slightly more, not because he is a much better player, but because he is carrying Liverpool. However I do feel that this season has helped prove that John Terry is the best central defender England has at the minute. Look at how many goals we've conceded. Yes we have a new genius keeper, but how many saves has he actually had to make? 27. And that is hugely down to JT.

Not quite sure why you launched an attack on my footballing mind there Ashman, I always respected your opinion... Shame it wasn't mutual eh... :'(
