Philips later created the CD-i which was more based on the ideas planned which had the crap Zelda game and then Sony released the playstation.
I read it somewhere about the zelda series, never heard of it before that.

I thought that Sony (who were not into games at the time) were going to make the CD drive for the Nintendo console of its day, but they parted company, and Nintendo lost the CD technology in the bargin, so they had to put a cart drive on the new machine. That new machine would later become the N64. Sony went out and developed their own machine, based on that CD system, and the rest is history.

Now look where we are. CD and now DVD is common place and is the format of choice.
