And listing 'good reasons' to self-harm doesn't really resolve it. I can understand how people resort to alcohol or something if they're feeling down but I still don't get self-harming.
It's probably just me but I still don't get it.

But thats exactly why people do it, it does very briefly make them feel better.

Yes, they are very inconsistent, and also very impersonal. A lot of people want the comfort and security of knowing there is someone there for them in the long-term, a helpline is neither comforting nor a security long-term due to the obvious lack of consistency and lack of physical contact which makes people feel less alone.

I've spoken to maybe a handful of people about it but i've never found someone who didn't have an adequate reason, i've never heard of anyone doing it simply for attention unless you're thinking about some sort of Munchausen(Correct me if i'm wrong) sydrome.

And thats why i got so annoyed at this thread, it's just an example of the kind of attitude thats making it harder for them to get help.
