She's defensive against the attitudes seen in this thread because they dont help and they're uninformed. Having spoken to her for a long time she has only ever mentioned it to me twice in 8 months very briefly, this idea that they all want to talk about it just isn't the case.

Sorry, but that post just screams "hissy fit" to me, like a kid taking his ball home because he's losing the game............

How come you're so very protective of and defensive about cutting yourself?
[edit] And no, someone who's stopped smoking ISN'T an ex-smoker. Why, do you think they should be labelled as such?
I guess the ginger haired, black wig perv's lack of response is due to the fact that he actually can't see any basis for the (non) points made.
Still, the next time someone even hints at affecting your precious emotional state, you can back off with that trusted excuse, "Hey, I cut myself, I'm exclusive and therefore exempt from any comment you can throw at me, even if it is true". Sadly, that will probably blag your way through life earning that false sympathy that you oh so need to pass the day with.

I thought that.. Mainly because all you hear about is teenagers doing it more than the adults. All you see on TV/film, are teenagers doing it. You can read blogs on the Internet written by miserable 15-year olds about it.
Although, I think it's a little more of an age thing rather than an attention-seeking thing, because there's that stereotypcial view on teenagers going through the oh-so rough patch as soon as they've reached puberty. You've got more reason to cut yourself; spots, periods, sex..
The thoughts are all crazy at that age, though, so it seems almost normal for them to be doing it.

Because it's not easy to see for yourself
Because it's difficult to hide when you go out
Because it's not intended to kill yourself
Because it's more difficult to control
