10 meh'd due to the sheer SIZE of the thing.
10-2 suck'd due to the suckiness of the whole thingie.

I had no problem with the technical side of the game - well, most of it.
It just never made much of an impact on me.

So really all people dont like FF8 for is its leveling up system?

8 does have one of the better endings, I'll give you that.

Mine is Anima.

I thought FF8 was really good myself, and the junction system just involved a little effort. 100 Ultima to Str. attribute meant for some rather cool 9999 shots using the 'Lion Heart' additional limit break.

Finished the last boss(es) again last night, just love everything about the ending!

By VIII he means 8, not 7 or IX, hence not one of the best games out.

If he'd said VII or IX then I would agree, but he didn't.

VIII wasn't bad, just a bit lame due to a rubbish levelling system.
