I have a 17" Hyundai. It has a dead pixel near the left edge, called Bastardio.

Samsung, LG, Viewsonic, Hyundai all make good ones.

Not to say other manufacturers are bad, if you find one you like the look of have a look at some reviews and see what the opinions are.

Ive got a feeling that LG is slightly more, though i have seen comparisons between the vx910 (500:1) and the L1730B (550:1) and the viewsonic trumps it.

Yep - its really noticable when watching DVDs, when black scenes are rendered as a dark grey, if you have a poor contrast TFT.

I thinks it's to do with how well it can produce the lightest and darkest colours.

It was reccomended to me by another designer friend, and Viewsonic are concidered one of the best for the market when it comes to graphic design, and not badly priced for 1600x1200

My current LCD (LG1710B) has exactly the same contrast ratio and, again, concidered as one of the best TFT's about. 400:1 isn't to bad, but there's a massive jump in cost when you get to 600:1

Don't you think the contrast ratio is a bit poor for the money?

My wallet won't though. 20" screens are just too expensive at the moment, i can't justify the cost.
