I was watching this programme on ITV a few minutes ago and there were two families on it who were competing to lose the most weight. The winning family won a holiday to America in a 4-star hotel and they got some spending money with it.
To enter for the show though, you've obviously got to be pretty fat so those of us that are currently a reasonable weight don't stand a chance. The way I see it, people are being rewarded for piling on the pounds by being lazy and stuffing their faces then just losing a bit before they more than likely get fat again.
One of the contestants on the winning team started out at 27 stone and was only 13 years old. At the final weigh-in he was still just over 23 stone so does someone like that really deserve such a prize.
I'll admit I'm not the the most active person in the world but I do work hard to make sure I don't become overweight. I suppose I shouldn't be jealous though because I knowing that this holiday is the best thing that'll ever happen to him because at the rate he's going I imagine he'll die when he's 40 from some sort of fat person's disease.
How do people become so amazingly fat?

There's no great secret to getting fat, which is my point. You eat lots of junk food you'll get fat, simple as.

Yes, but getting fat is dependant upon what you eat, not how much food you eat altogether.

If i eat 6 pounds of steak, 5 kilos of potatos, 10 chocolate cakes, 3 full english breakfasts, etc etc

I'm going to get fat no matter what.

Just eating a lot, won't neccessarily make you fat. I eat a reasonable amount every day and I'm really thin.

What secret? You eat a lot of food and sit on your ass all day doing nothing you'll get fat, simple as. We're not talking the secret meaning of life here.

The secret to being fat is eating a high-glycemic (sp?) diet, consisting of foods such as cooked carrots, cooked potatoes and worst of all, the daddy; beer. A low glycemic diet consisting of meat, fruit, vegetables, rice and so on is a much lower glycemic diet.

Oh, and by the way; try this.

If there were no supermarkets then where would people get microwave chips from? Would such food have been developed without supermarket culture? Alright, so theres obviously a lot more to it but I think the way food is distributed is detrimental to health.

'They choose not to' - moving a little into Philosophy here, but do they (or we) really make a considered choice? Poor people are more vunerable to advertising, IMO. When you have hour upon hour of what is essentially propeganda beamed out the TV or whatever, your thought process is not going to be 'Shall I or shall I not eat healthily?' but 'I assosiate McDonalds with the branding on the advert, therefore I shall eat McDonalds because I have been conditioned to think it is good'.

I eat healthily enough, I eat quite a lot during the day, yet I still manage to maintain my 'underweightness'

I reckon fibre is the culprit in this case, everything getting digested quickly.
