Im 17.
Im in fine physical condition, i dont go to the gym, i save money in the long run and do it at home.
There are a couple of things, like the big machines, that arent so easy to get at home, but there is a way to do it with convensional weights.

One thing that annoys me, is when people drive to the gym, then do about 5 miles on the tredmill. You might aswell of jogged to the gym.....

I don't have enough weights for doing worthwhile squats anymore to build up the muscle, also as you said when dealing with heavy weights you really do need someone spotting just incase you drop the bar or get into bother.

I lost a lot of weight recently cos of illness, oh and the "nearing" isnt valid anymore ;p

Squat
Lunge
Dead-lift
Calf-raise

I find it alright, I can exercise pretty much all of my upper body from using the dumbells and barbell, ab crunches, press-ups and sit ups.

Leg exercises ain't too good though and it becomes a hassle at times changing the weights for the various exercises. Thats why the resistance machines at the gyms make things simpler. Might find out if any of the local gyms have special rates going for students, last time I checked they didn't but maybe things have changed since.
