I bought the Half-Life generation pack a couple of years ago. I kept on encountering crappy jumping sections in the extra games and only progressed so far as the marine chopper landing in the original.

Did it get any better if you played further?

It gets mentioned alongside the likes of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark but apart from the way it's presented I found it to be a terrible, dull FPS over the 20 odd hour I spent playing through the various versions (Blue Shift etc).

Do did it get better? If not I don't see why it's such a 'classic'.

Originally 98 on a friends PC and then I played Counter Strike where somebody shot me through a wall.

I then bought the Generations pack in 2001.

Of course it wont, but it gave me a chance to see what all the fuss was about. Singleplyer, anyway.

Goldneye on an emulator will never be as brilliant as it was on the N64. For a start there's no multiplayer.

It's got nothing to do with not wanting to broaden my horizons.
I can't afford to support a pc and a console plus games. I have to buy my own food and provide a roof over my own head you know. Still, emulators sometimes are the way.... :)

Broaden your horizons next time.

I thought I was missing something so I tried the other versions. I had far too much time to kill at uni so 20hrs was nothing. It was just painfully average no matter what version. A right waste of 15 quid.

I think when I get HL2 on xbox and Far cry I'll most likely prefer Far Cry.

I hate it when 'classics' turn out to be to$$. I hope the Final Fantasy games I'm going to get don't end up being as poor.

Missed this first time. If you don't like something after the 20 hours you spent playing the various versions, I doubt it'll improve any after the point you decided to stop playing.... :D

I'd agree with that. IU played Goldeneye on a pc emulating the N64 a few years back. Very good game.

Just to play goldeneye it's worth browsing the second hand console section of Game and picking up an N64 for about £15, Goldeneye should set you back about £5. It's a gem of a game, it fully deserves the classic status that it commands.
