No, don't report me to the games police just yet.
Sometimes I think, should I still be playing games at my age? Well, the thing is, yes!
You see, my generation was were it really started to kick off. We were the ones who had the first taste of what laid the foundations for the consoles of today.
The Nintendo Entertainment System, the Sega Master System. We played Sonic and Mario when the mere thought of Sony enjoying the success they do now would have been laughed off as being ridiculous.
The original GameBoy is now transformed into the Nintendo DS. And Sony have an amazing handheld console coming out too. Who would have thought?
I can't see my enjoyment of games ending though. I mean, why should it?! I don't have to listen to Radio 2 or drive a sensible car. And I'm not going to.
18 rated games weren't needed (or wanted) when I was young and yet the Grand Theft Auto series are now one of the most successful titles ever released.
So play. Play lots. And forget about thinking whether you should be doing it anymore.
In the meantime, I'll be waiting for my Nintendo DS and copy of Mario 64 DS to arrive. And yes I will be running to the door like a child when the postman comes....
But so is the PSone, that still sells today.
I can imagine Nintendo 'incrementally' bringing the DS into the market untill it takes over as the leader.
And, hey, you can never be too old for gaming :-)!
1.3 million was a very good Christmas with the DS.
I can't begin to understand how the GBA SP did so well.
In Europe there were 3 special editions, Pokemon, 2 Mario games, one against Donkey Kong and a Zelda title... plus a price drop. That's how it managed to sell millions in Europe.
My best mate bought one and so did my brother.
The GBA is a monster and Nintendo saying "goodbye" to it is stupid. The only way they can continue to please developers is by making the DS backwards compatible.
I'm not saying a new GBA will appear this year... but 2 years is perfectly plausable.
The Nintendo DS is not a Gameboy. Why diffuse the GBA when it sells more? The GBA sold more than the DS in America during the festive period.
The GBA SP is a nice little handheld. The DS seems like the obvious choice to 'upgrade' to.
Having two handhelds can't be a wise move and I would imagine it'll be very unattractive to developers.

Pah! Child!
I remember you from posts such as PlayStation 2 AV leads.

And for me, likewise :)

It wouldn't as Nintendo are very keen to keep the two brands separate (which I think is confused a little because of the DS's GBA-back compatibility).

They're making the GBA2 now, the DS is a separate brand. What worries me though is after two screens, going back to one might seem like backtracking on Nintendo's part by some when really it is what Nintendo have planned all along.
How Sega gave us the Master System and now, sadly, aren't even making the consoles anymore (but thankfully still making games).
The DS, for me, is as exciting as getting my first original Gameboy. Apart from the fact that Nintendo have called it something new, this could quite happily have been called a Gameboy DS and that would have been that.
So either they are considering this to be a new brand altogether and will keep making GameBoys OR the GameBoy SP is the last one for now and the DS will take their handheld gaming dominance onward.
