Just out of interest, do you have them in your house?

We've got one upstairs and one downstairs, just checked them there. I remember my dad set off our house alarm one night and I was dreaming about an alarm going off then woke up in a panic ready to smash my window in.

I dunno, a fire in the fuse box isnt that far-fetched.

When we had an extension, we had the smoke alarms wired to the mains, which is nice.

My dad just has normal battery ones. Probably hasn't checked them for a while either........

We have like 5...

None of us would wake up if they were all going off though.

If it beeps when the batteries are low, what happens if you aren't in when it starts to beep? It can't go on beeping indefinitely, especially as the batteries are low.

THey do, becasue ours was broken it sat in here for ages with no top, and it said "DANGER. RADIOACTIVE!! Am"

Americium, obvoously.

And our top one never goes off, the bottom one all teh time, because even lighting a match in the kitchen sets it off, pretty much, so if a real fire did happen, i'd jsut ignore it.

It went off once, and i left it, then i ran downstairs when i realised only I was in, and no-one could have set it off. One of those candles in a jar things had caught a daddy long legs which ignited it, and there was a torch like the olympic flame coming from teh jar.

First reaction "ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"

Second reaction - damp dishcloth over the top.
I rock.
