I'm not talking about pretending to like albums that were around before you were born (yes, I'm sure you always loved Scott Walker, whatever), I'm talking about the albums you used to listen to when you were a kid and haven't put on in ages.

Thanks to my PC and its hefty hard drive, I've now copied all my CDs back to my playlist and have rediscovered some classics I all but forgot.

Reef - Glow (brilliant frankly, singer sounds like he lives on Bovril)
Ocean Colour Scene - Moseley Shoals (some excellent singles on here)
Supergrass - I Should Coco (still maintain this is one of the best debut albums ever)
The Charlatans - Tellin' Stories (never really stopped listening to this to be honest)
Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters (best of all their albums)
Embrace - The Good Will Out (cracking)

Ah, I remember the days when indie music was good.

If you're doing anything by Faith No More, try "From Out Nowhere"- it sounds great and not overly complicated. 70s stuff? How about "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple, or "Long Live Rock And Roll" by Rainbow?

I've always liked Scott Walker...

Being very, very old, the music I listened to as a kid is from the, say it quietly, 80's, so doesn't bear repeating here.

I was going to start a new topic, but this seems like a good enough place to put this:

I'm playing in a covers band with some mates at the moment, and some ideas of good 70's and 90's rock stuff would be useful. We're all extremely competent musicians, so anything's welcome. Here's what we've been running through at the moment:

"Paranoid"
"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
"Whole Lotta Love"
"All Along the Watchtower"
"Heart-Shaped BoX"
Pearl Jam - "Alive"
Rolling Stones - "Love Is Strong"

Just building up for a gig in December, so we're doing about 10/15 songs. I'm going to suggest Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun", Red Hot Chilli Peppers - "Aeroplane" and Weezer - "Buddy Holly", or "The Sweater Song" when I see them next, and I think we're doing some Supergrass and maybe a Faith No More song too. So, a nice variety of classic 70's and 90's tracsk there, and a few modern ones thrown in, but I'm not too keen on them. Any suggestions?

"Blur" and "13" are excellent stand-alone albums, although the other 4/5 would make a good best of between them.

Just listening to Weezer - "Weezer", and it's better than I remember when I got it about 5 years ago. Buddy Holly will always rock.

Soundgarden are A1.

As are Swervedriver.

And most certainly Rage Against the Machine.

I borrowed that Soundgarden CD off a mate, thought it was rubbish.

I only ever listen to the best of Blur even though I have all their albums.

I'm sure it would have eventually. Anyway, some Amerirock in amongst this lot:

Nirvana - "Nevermind" & "In Utero"
Soundgarden - "Superunknown"
Radiohead - "The Bends"

Didn't Terrorvision have a really good early album, before they went all crap?
