Basically, I was getting p!ssed off with so many computer users not know basic things to do on their PC (like defrag) and so deciding to upgrade their PCs cos they get slow. Then they moan about having to continually upgrade their PC. Or people who get viruses cos they open attachments and have no idea what a firewall, or antivirus program is.
So I decided to start a website full of articles, tips and tricks, links and downloads for things to help people use their computers more effectively. The site will be available for people to use for a membership of £10 a year (probably).
The site is still very much in developmental stages at present. So please ignore all the content - all the articles/etc will be new on the final site (loads of piccys, step-by-step guides, etc). I know the site doesn't look really fancy, but I'm no creative genius. My main intention is to make the site really easy to use for someone who's not very good with computers.
I would welcome your opinions on the site. If you find any bugs as well, please let me know. If pages don't work, it's cos I haven't made them yet.
The website address is: http://www.xymail.co.uk/xyhelp.com/ http://www.xymail.co.uk/xyhelp.com/
You can log on with: Username - test; Passowrd - test
The site is running off my PC atm, so if it doesn't work, it probably means my PC is off or something.
Cheers in advance.
Microsoft does not generally allow the use of our icons in advertising, in books and other printed matter, on clothing or other promotional items, on-line and internet locations, in software applications, in television programs, commercials, movies, or on video tape, as they are NOT to be used as "artwork" or design elements.
EXCEPTIONS: Use of our icons is permissible in relation to a training manual or documentation written for and/or about a Microsoft product. In such cases, use of Microsoft icons must be specific to the function of the icon within the Microsoft software, and not used as a graphical element or design for your own purposes. Further, icons cannot be modified or altered and must appear as they would within the Microsoft software.
If your use falls within these guidelines, no further written permission will be required or forthcoming.

Hmmm... does my web site count as a training item? Or are they being used as "a graphical element or design for [my] own purposes"

A man not unlike myself!
I'm hoping to use this site (when it's finished) to show to companies in York to try to persuade them to give me a job as a part-time web programmer.
The login generated two PHP errors though:
Notice: Undefined index: remember in C:\htdocs\xyhelp.com\login.php on line 6
Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER in C:\htdocs\xyhelp.com\login.php on line 16
And £10 a year seems fair, just as long as you can show its worth it, because there are a lot of sites out there with detailed free articles.
But I'm glad you think it's easy to use - that's the whole point of the site. All constructive criticism is welcome - I shall endeavour to remove *all* my XP icons.....damn! Lol!
> Afternoon? Any opinions?
Erm well its clean fast loading and gets to the point without any flashy stuff, I like it :D
I got a phonecall on Sunday morning. It was my Grandma. She has been recently setup with a PC and email facilities though she knows little about it. She said she had tried to send me an email but guessed it hadn't worked as a while after she sent it, she got a phone call. The person asked if my Gran if she had tried to send an email to someone called Matthew Knight (me), because she had received an email to that person that morning. My Grandma happened to ask where this person was calling from and she said Great Dunmow - the town where I live.
I checked with my Gran, and she hadn't included in the email my location (e.g. no reference to Great Dunmow), or her own phone number, and claimed to be a novice with computers. This baffled even me, since the address my Gran sends emails to me at is a domain which I own, so assuming she got the domain right (a very simple domain), then it would have got to me on the catch-all..... Any thoughts?
