Basically, I was getting p!ssed off with so many computer users not know basic things to do on their PC (like defrag) and so deciding to upgrade their PCs cos they get slow. Then they moan about having to continually upgrade their PC. Or people who get viruses cos they open attachments and have no idea what a firewall, or antivirus program is.
So I decided to start a website full of articles, tips and tricks, links and downloads for things to help people use their computers more effectively. The site will be available for people to use for a membership of £10 a year (probably).
The site is still very much in developmental stages at present. So please ignore all the content - all the articles/etc will be new on the final site (loads of piccys, step-by-step guides, etc). I know the site doesn't look really fancy, but I'm no creative genius. My main intention is to make the site really easy to use for someone who's not very good with computers.
I would welcome your opinions on the site. If you find any bugs as well, please let me know. If pages don't work, it's cos I haven't made them yet.
The website address is: http://www.xymail.co.uk/xyhelp.com/ http://www.xymail.co.uk/xyhelp.com/
You can log on with: Username - test; Passowrd - test
The site is running off my PC atm, so if it doesn't work, it probably means my PC is off or something.
Cheers in advance.
What font have you used for the menus? I was trying to get a font like that for a site I did a while back and couldn't find one - looked through all my fonts (only the standard ones in XP though).
My new little baby. Obviously not finished or validated, but I'm hoping to set up a kind of partnership with a few people I know and this would be the front for the design side of things. The 'About' tab on the flash is the only one that works exactly as I intend, but that's a 5 minute job copying and pasting the (hand-coded) boxes that flash up.
> Has the notice stopped now?
The errors are gone, but so is the entire site when I try to log in. The log in works though, as going back to the web link you provided shows me logged in. Logging out still shows the error message:
Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER in C:\htdocs\xyhelp.com\logout.php on line 4
About the icons, I think I agree with you. I'm gonna make my own icons. Wht I'll prob do is make a few different styles (they'll all be basic so don't expect anything too clever) and then get opinions on them.
> Where did it generate the errors? I can't reproduce it.
Simply entering the 'test' username and password and clicking the Log In button, though it does appear to log me in, as clicking the back button and reloading shows me logged in (this is in FireFox 0.9.3, IE works fine). The Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER in C:\htdocs\xyhelp.com\login.php on line 16 error comes up when logging out as well.
As far as the icons go, on the articles page (http://www.xymail.co.uk/xyhelp.com/articles.php) that would probably count as use for your own design. However, within a specific article about setting up a network for example, using the networking icon as a 'look for this icon and click to open up the networking set-up' would be classed as a training item (though I'm no legal expert).

You've kind of answered that your self.
"being used as "a graphical element or design for [my] own purposes"
