Basically, I was getting p!ssed off with so many computer users not know basic things to do on their PC (like defrag) and so deciding to upgrade their PCs cos they get slow. Then they moan about having to continually upgrade their PC. Or people who get viruses cos they open attachments and have no idea what a firewall, or antivirus program is.
So I decided to start a website full of articles, tips and tricks, links and downloads for things to help people use their computers more effectively. The site will be available for people to use for a membership of £10 a year (probably).
The site is still very much in developmental stages at present. So please ignore all the content - all the articles/etc will be new on the final site (loads of piccys, step-by-step guides, etc). I know the site doesn't look really fancy, but I'm no creative genius. My main intention is to make the site really easy to use for someone who's not very good with computers.
I would welcome your opinions on the site. If you find any bugs as well, please let me know. If pages don't work, it's cos I haven't made them yet.
The website address is: http://www.xymail.co.uk/xyhelp.com/ http://www.xymail.co.uk/xyhelp.com/
You can log on with: Username - test; Passowrd - test
The site is running off my PC atm, so if it doesn't work, it probably means my PC is off or something.
Cheers in advance.

Lolage, funniest thing I've heard all day!;)
And yeah it needs attention paid to it, but I've got to brush up on my W3C and CSS standards before I worry too much about 'wheelchair access'. Maybe Timmargh can supply some knd of seal of approval if he likes our sites? That counts, right?
> What do they want, huge flashing buttons that shout "click

> me" on(rollOver), or "You've clicked me, are you sure,
> disabled person?"???
In a nutshell:
Has to work with CSS turned off
Has to work in text browsers
Has to contain good structured Symantic mark up
Content should be seperate from design
Alt, Title tags
Access keys
Tab Indexes
Table Summary's
Labels on forms
Navigation has to be clear, and work with styles disabled
Resizable text
The list goes on a bit after that. be happy it's not the same as 508! That has a clause in it about gif's flickering under 50Hz and having to have a Black and White bersion of the site!
The "Checky" plugin for FF is excellent for evaluating your site, especially for sight impaired (has a cool colour blin emulator in it too)
The closest I've come to making a confroming website is: http://wip.ffi.org though this was the last project I was working on before I left the firm and now have no control over the final conformance as I was their Usability and Accessibility guru!
It's good to get into practice with this now.

Though nothing is spefically said about website, they do come under "services" as that is what they do, provide information and services.
It's a subject worth reading up on. The RNIB have already taken action again 150 business/individuals over website access
FWIW, SR fail even meeting basic accessibility and would be liable for action if a disabled user decided the site was being discrinating.

I still think it isn't too bad.
Can you dive a little deeper into the Disabled Access Rights legislation issue.

Hey, if Darth Vader wasn't black, he wouldn't be scary! It'll lighten up a bit once some more 'decoration' images are in there. Might get rid of that textured background too - verging on tacky.

Does that mean we'll have to conform to BOBBI, and stuff like that?
p.s. that second link didn't work.

Little hint with Pixlefont and flash.
1. Switch of aliasing or insert it as real text
2. Aligh text to an even pixel. Being slightly off causes blurring.
Like the site very much, though a tad dark!
One thing you should all be aware of is as of Oct 2004, it's a legal requiremtn to accomodate the new Disabled Access RIghts legislation.
And whilst we're at it:

http://dev.digital-crocus.com/sn: Simple site for local firm. Still a couple fo bugs to fix, but does the job nicely for what their brief stated. Also in the process of producing all of their letter heads, business cards, car livery etc.
