The Next Game Boy
matt you seem down on the ds but what about the next game boy do you think that could compete with PSP?
Matt responds: Don't let my rants fool you. I'm not down on the DS. I'm just waiting to see its true potential realized. As for the next Game Boy, which I'll call Game Boy Evolution since this seems to be the popular title for it, I'm extremely optimistic.
Actually, based on things I've heard, the paths of the DS and GBE have intersected already. Sources claim that the idea for the next Game Boy took flight right about the same time GameCube launched. The device was merely supposed to be a portable GameCube. Nintendo was hoping to create a synergy between the two platforms. However, for whatever reason -- probably an inability to miniaturize the GameCube at a consumer-friendly price -- the Game Boy successor was abandoned. Instead, Nintendo opted to use an old piece of tech: a hardware dubbed Nitro that was originally developed to be an update to the Game Boy line during the PS1 era. At former NCL president Hiroshi Yamauchi's suggestion, the tech was enhanced with a second screen and later a touch-sensitive interface. Thus, the DS was born.
What's interesting is that work on Game Boy Evolution is allegedly further along than most of us would probably guess. And more intriguing still, sources claim that Nintendo is once again trying to make the machine a portable GameCube.
If that comes to fruition, I will likely be singing the praises of Game Boy Evolution from the very start. It would be an amazing accomplishment. The machine would have a potential library of 500 games from launch. Imagine being able to play Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Wave Race, and Pikmin on the go. It's a Nintendo fan's dream come true.
That... would be... great. And it would mean the Gamecube would continue to have software developed for it.

erm, why?

Define "on the go".

Wahey, my point paraphrased, far better than I was trying to say it.
Also I can play Gamecube games on the go, playing on a little didi-screen.
Gerrid I own 3 Gameboy Advance systems, I even own a Pokemon mini and a load of other Nintendo systems I'll never play properly.
A mini-Gamecube would be great. It'd link up to Revolution (probably) and give a new life to my Gamecube collection. When I'm at home I'll play with the Revolution, but on the go I can play my Gamecube games... Breathing life back into them. I might even be able to finish them all :D
Fine if GC compatibility is just an extra feature, and the GBE offers something different, but if all it is is a portable GC, what's the point? Why not just use your GC?

Most Nintendo games are sequels/updates.
Not in the straightest sense of the term, but they generally just pump out altered versions of the same franchises.

I don't think Nintendo are that creative at all :' {
ps. I bought a GBA, realised most of the best games were just SNES ports, and sold it, since I had already played them moons ago.

That was our biggest criticism.
There are millions of people that never played games before the Playstation became the latest 'must have accessory'.
You've already said you wouldn't want to play GC games with the revolution around, I don't think that it being a portable GC (you can already get screens and battery packs for them remember) is going to make much difference to anybody. Honestly. Think about it.
The SNES died 8 years ago, so there are a lot of people who never played the game. With the Revolution, the oldest the GC will be will be about 4 years. That's not enough new consumers.
Honestly Dringo I can't see what you're talking about! Your only reason for buying this GBE would be so that you don't have to set up your GC next to your revolution. See what a ridiculous reason that is? If I still had all my SNES games I would never have bought them again on the GBA. I doubt many people did that, buy the same game twice.

Not really. I'm not re-setting my SNES up to play Mario World, but I have played it on the GBA when I was on holiday.

The GBA is basically a portable SNES from my point of view. That's what it basically is in my view, plus new titles which could also be done on the SNES.
People buy Gameboy's, but people don't buy Gamecube's.
I personally think it is a fantastic idea, playing Gamecube games on the go.
And I'm really looking forward to it. I know the press would lap it up.
