The Gamecube is costing Nintendo big and sagging sales are a large part of their problem, ditch the deadwood before it's to late.
> Windows 9x line
Am I right in assuming that 9x refers to Windows 95, 98 FE and 98 SE? Maybe Windows ME too given that that was also a DOS based OS, but that doesn't follow logically from the "9x" suffix...
I've never really known what people have meant by that.

Well I've been living in Glasgow and London. And yet, in these places we have the media and the industry telling us that PC sales grew by 12% in 2004. But hey, the only make and sell them, so clearly you know better. Hell even Google seems to think they grew. Try it for yourself: "worldwide computer sales" ought to do it.
As for Windows XP... well it replaced the old and outdated Windows 9x line. See, 9x was built as a 16 bit operating system and had a kernel pushing ten years old when XP came out. It had security holes and wasn't able to support various new technologies, admittedly minor things like broadband, wireless etc. Windows XP however was built on the far more secure, 32 bit, NT core.
As for OS X, it's based on Unix. OS 9 wasn't. That's more than an update or revamp - that's entirely new.

Where have you been living? Under a rock? Computer sales and software sales are down - I thought this was now gen knowledge! Its been on the news (may have been a news channel), and wrote about.
As for your 2nd point, the discussion moved into a PC Vs Console topic, and all the recent upgrades are an example of why more people dont use a PC for games.

Again you are missing the point completely, how do you accurately know how computer sales are doing? People can build their own by just buying the parts themselves, small computer firms build them etc.
There is no 'central' place to get a machine from..
+ Plus you comment on software sales is rubbish as well, it's too broad to put accurate figures down, as well as there being things such as open sourced software like Linux/FreeBSD which is free.
Computers are doing fine, they have been and always will be.
+ This is a games forum, no one is going to care about how "Final Cut Pro" is doing on the Mac, so again your comments on software are void.
