Basically I need a good antivirus programme and I am willing to pay for one.

Basically tell me what the best antivirus out there is, reguardless of the cost.

I need it to be availible to install on two routed computers without having to pay for two copies (I think thats extortionate)

So throw some suggestions my way people please.

Thanks a lot.

I thought the point of offering download only software was that it's cheaper because of the need for no packaging, postage etc...

It's funny that Amazon are offering the boxed version of McAfee VirusScan 8 for cheaper than SRs download only price...

Anyway, I'm thinking of buying McAfee 8 (if you hadn't guessed) it's got the one of the best ratings when tested, and it's cheap.

Total Samples/Found Samples (321 total possible) + Number Missed + Detection Percentage

1) eXtendia AVK - 321/321 0 Missed - 100%
2) Kaspersky 5.0 - 320/321 1 Missed - 99.70% (with Extended Database ON)
2) McAfee VirusScan 8.0 - 319/321 + 2 (2 found as joke programs - heuristically) - 99%
3) F-Secure - 319/321 2 Missed - 99.37%
4) GData AVK - 317/321 4 Missed - 98.75%
5) RAV + Norton (2 way tie) - 315/321 6 Missed - 98.13%
6) Dr.Web - 310/321 11 Missed - 96.57%
7) CommandAV + F-Prot + BitDefender (3 Way Tie) - 309/321 12 Missed - 96.26%
8)ETrust - 301/321 20 Missed - 93.76%
9) Trend - 300/321 21 Missed - 93.45%
10) Panda - 298/321 23 Missed - 92.83%
11) Avast! Pro - 292/321 29 Missed - 90.96%
12) KingSoft - 288/321 33 Missed - 89.71%
13) NOD32 - 285/321 36 Missed (results identical with or without advanced heuristics) - 88.78%
14) AVG Pro - 275/321 46 Missed - 85.66%
15) AntiVIR - 268/321 53 Missed - 83.48%
16) ClamWIN - 247/321 74 Missed - 76.94%
17) UNA - 222/321 99 Missed - 69.15%
18) Norman - 215/321 106 Missed - 66.97%
19) Solo - 182/321 139 Missed - 56.69%
20) Proland - 73/321 248 Missed - 22.74%
21) Sophos - 50/321 271 Missed - 15.57%
22) Hauri - 49/321 272 Missed - 15.26%
23) CAT Quickheal - 21/321 300 Missed - 6%
24) Ikarus - Crashed on first virus. - 0%

Interesting stuff about Sophos...

I upgraded to Panda 2004 and it's b*ggered everything up. I can't put my laptop into hibernate now as it will never recover.

I'm gonna uninstall it and see if that makes a difference, if it doesn't, then I'm stuffed...

Well Norton is crap. It didn't even spot the three trojans I had on my PC which I spotted by checking the start-up registry. I now use NOD32 which is quite good but McAfee is also very good. AVG is good for a free piece of software but compared to a priced antivirus thing it just doesn't do it.

Yeah it can cause corrupt files apparently because they will both try to remove the same file and the one that tries to remove the detected file second finds it is already gone and throws a hissy fit.

I would not recommend running two anti virus's at once, not only will it be a drain on your system resources it can often have problems when it does detect a virus (although I am talking about their real time guards)

not as far as i'm aware mate, i safeguard by running that and norton and neither have detected anything new since i installed it, infact, Antivir picked up on some things that norton missed...

i never really got on with AVG, but everyone else seems pleased with it :)

Does Antivir contain any adware crap?

Its a toss-up between antivir and AVG free antiviruses.

What would anyone recommend?

Panda kept failing to recognise my username despite paying for it. Customer Services were no use.

I got Panda antivirus, it seems OK.

I've got to renew it however, so I'm not sure about what to do...
